I think using up the shot clock was part of the plan. At least, I'm pretty sure every team milks the clock as much as possible when they have a lead and the game is close.

It's exchanging bail-out opportunities in case of failed plays for time. Hence, the reason why so many teams go with simple plays (and isolation plays) when the shot clock needs to be managed.

Again, a better pass + a better/proper screen = success. The rest is secondary.

Here's the same play from last nights game with Harden standing in the same corner. Guess what. It worked just fine.

CP3 would FORCE Harden to get along with him. Harden is not a leader. He needs someone better than him AND strong willed to get him in line. Someone like a CP3, Lebron, or Prime Wade or Kobe.

Dwight's not going to do it because he's not strong willed enough and not a leader. So the result is you have Harden running rampant.

What kind of play are you watching?

I'm pretty sure switching the corners wouldn't have done much. It was more of a three men play of the horns where Lin drives off the pick, Howard's man hedges to stop the drive, Howard screens Parsons' man Gasol, and Lin passes to Parsons for a wide open three.

    The play got ****ed because
    1. Lin didn't pass it in time
    2. Howard was lazy and didn't set a good enough screen on Gasol

Harden and Bev were literally there to spread the floor/ or cut to the basket or whatever if the play gets broken down.

There is different possibilities and things you can do with horns. I was just trying to point out most of possibilities and we all know Parsons hasn't been hot from 3 so I'm assuming that Parsons 3 was not what they wanted. However, I did point out that Parsons SHOULD've been open but Howard was too lazy and didn't even set a screen.

But again, if you switch Harden and Bev it's completely different. If Parsons is not shooting that 3 when he gets the ball from Lin and drives, you would get an open Harden for three or a roll from Howard to the basket. Easy points.

i think a better thread would have been Mchale's calls a play out and harden ignores it. Can anyone make a gif of Mchale slapping that marker after harden iso'd the iso? can't remember which qtr it was.

Harden needs to stop being such a diva on the court, I mean we're 6 games into the season, come on.

Even Melo would listen to the play and not directly ignore it.

If I understand correctly, this is the play they were probably trying to run.

All Dwight had to do was keep Gasol occupied, Parsons WIDE OPEN three.

Why wouldn't Harden just look back at Lin? It's not like Harden was hustling to get to his position anyway.

I think the OP is saying:

Lin Called a post-switch which has Parsons picked Lin's man and switch post with Howard and recede to above the 3 point line. If Parsons would've had an open shot he would've taken it. It didn't happen so Parsons drive left to a crowded corner and got trapped. So he kicked out back to Lin and at this point it is a man-on-man with Lin against Blake. But by the time the ball got back to Lin it was to close to the clock so he had to take a tough shot.

You can tell Harden didn't try to get open or seems interested. I am not sure if this is a distrust in Lin or his lack of confidence in the coaches decision or he believe he should've be the ball handler at that point (which is valid). You can tell after the rebound the coaches already yelling the play out while Bev was taking the ball across the half court . But right when the ball reaches lakers' half of the court instead of going to the corner where he was suppose to go - which his strong side - he wanted the rock. When that didn't happen he just went to the closest corner which is switchable with the other corner. Since Harden is left handed it is of course the smart thing to do to put him on his strong side. On the side where Bev was he can drive/cut baseline or come up top to crash the paint from the middle. Or he can step back.

But looks like since the coaches choose to run the play through the pg, he took himself out of the play. Which is a shame because I think he was suppose to end up with the Man-on-Man if he was on the left side and slide up to the top when Parsons drives in. That create an ISO situation with Harden and Meeks with Lin end up where James was - on the left corner where Lin was driving to. That would open up the driving lane for him and because of the post-switch D Ho would become his post man, supposed Rockets Bread and Butter.

I think this is all just frustration of the miss free throws, not having the ball when he was hot, EGO, etc... They will be ok.
