LOL, let me rephrase that. Not 'good' three point shooter but passable, somebody you wouldn't mind taking one in a game. I was saying good by everyone's standards, not just nba (I just remembered this is what my high school coach told our team once)

That's why i was confused on 78% thing, but I bet our coach was just exaggerating.

Well... no ****. But that's primarily due to the fact that he's a GREAT -- not good, not passable -- 3 point shooter.

Just two examples of great shooting coaches out there...

Bob Thate- helped transsform Jason Kidd's perimeter shot

Dave Hopla- helped the Knicks go from 30% to 40%. Arenas, Kobe, Ray Allen vouch for him. He even gave props to Lin on his website.

    But...[IMG]Really??!??!?

Lin is too cheap to spend on an actual good NBA shooting coach.

Lin shot 37% for the last 33 games of the season. I'm guessing his 3pt% will be somewhere around 37% next season.

I would not have discounted his first 2 months as much, when looking at his shooting %'s from 3 pt range, if not for the fact that they were SO bad, it HAD to be due to injury or chemistry or a one time problem. I mean, they were atrocious. It was "he should not have been an nba player" bad. I think it is unrealistic to expect that to repeat itself.

Also, he has been showing pretty consistent growth/progress on his shooting %'s, so it isn't all up and down.

I don't have confidence in his shooting coach. Theirs too many variables and movement in his form. He needs to emulate Curry/Thompson/Green/Allen.

Everyone needs to emulate them lol. But for lack of a better word, his form isn't compact, doesnt have that fluidity that would lend to him being a knockdown shooter. But there have been good shooters with odd form so hopefully he'll be fine.

    There are*

I'm not a shooting coach and I haven't studied his shot extensively. I do know that David Thorpe said he wouldn't coach a guy to emulate someone else's stroke exactly, but find the fixes that can be made with how a guy is comfortable shooting.

Lin's form never looked too terrible to me, it just never seemed like he was comfortable with the spot up shot. Hopefully with a year under his belt and a full summer of training and preseason team workouts, he'll show some improvement.

I realize he shot 40% from 3 in the last 41 games of the season which is elite level by any standards but please allow me to crap on him all the same.

I really don't think it that much to do with his form. I think he was just hesitant. Trying to shot fake too much and drive to the rim. Maybe a quicker release would help, but I think it's confidence to catch and shoot without hesitation that will help him maintain that 40% level for an entire season. He needs the mentality to look for his own shot more and stop trying to create for others all the time.
