On a scale from 1-10, how pissed would the Phillipines be if we traded Lin before this game?

They wouldn't give a ****. A lot of them are Lakers and Heat fans, and some of them identify as Pacific Islanders and not Asians, so there really isn't that much connection between Lin and the Philippines at all.

Lin is a Pacific Islander. Taiwan is right above Philippines in the Pacific.:)

Basketball in the Philippines is already popular regardless if Lin is there or not. Harden has already been there too.

There have been prior reports about the Rockets playing in Taipei (also vs. the Pacers[?]) and in China against the Lakers as well, so the Rockets might do some type of Asia tour.

Yeah, Roxy, you are an an expert and you are hilarious. You are such an expert that u know philippines and their love of basketball and jeremy lin. Philippines is highest catholic population in asia, loves underdog stories. Yeah most philippine movies have main protagonist coming from poor families and most villains the rich and powerful. Asian, catholic, underdog, Jeremy Lin in the reason Rockets are playing!

Just like how Asians don't support Manny Pacquiáo even though he is identified as Pacific Islanders....

    Whoa!!! Must get tickets

When NBA said a special announcement was going to be made this Sat, I figured it would be a Rockets game owing to the fact they were going to be in China already.

Filipinos are crazy over basketball. They'll be a huge hit.

it's not just about Lin, it's about basketball per se. Basketball has been called our national religion!

So to feature current rising powers in the NBA would be a treat. Heck, we warmly welcomed even retired NBA players.

And we do have a huge Chinese population.

Lin, Harden, Parsons, DMo, Asik--I'm sure our media will find stories to play up.

We are not Hispanic. We are basically Malay (more kin to Indonesian-Malays) with a lot of contact since 10th CE with the Chinese.

But because of our long experience of colonization (Spain 400 years) and America (50 years), we have a lot of influences and intermarriage. We were 400 years in the convent and 50 years in Hollywood--someone once said.

The U.S. brought us basketball and we've been crazy about it ever since.

don't the filipinos hate chinese and call them slur names like "ching chong" or "inchik"? Anyway, Jeremy Lin feels more like a white guy, and Philippines love USA so i guess it's ok:p
