Why do you dislike him so much? No one is saying he will sustain these numbers indefinately. It just shows that he has tremendous talent. Why would you want to get rid of a player that demonstrates such talent?

A few things are likely causing a dip in assists:

    1. Pretty much everyone but Lin is ice cold from the 3 point line. They are probably pissing away some assist opportunities for everybody. Remember the whole team's assists are down.

    2. Still working on chemistry with Dwight Howard and the new guys. Lin and Dwight hasn't really connected on passes as much as Lin used to with Omer. Too many missed connections and fumbled passes on the interior still.

    3. Patterson used to get and hit a ton of spot up Js (Morris did to an extent, too) and a good number of layups rolling to the rim. We are getting less of those assisted baskets out of the guys who now play their minutes.

    4. The team is getting to the line a ton-- a good thing (except if Dwight is missing excessively)-- and there are no assists on any of these possessions.

It's not just Lin. The wholes team's assist numbers are down (both total and pace adjusted).

It's not realistic as I look it up on basketball reference.
No Guard has shot 67% TS while averaging 9 FGA per game. 2 names did come up, but they only played 7 and 5 games that season.

Also - get your facts straight. Li'sn 3rd year is fully guaranteed and is NOT a team option.

    5. Any post up scoring does not count as an assist as there are dribbles involved.

Beverley played great against the Cliippers and had to guard Paul while doing a good job on him. Bev hasn't played much, he may still be not 100 percent physically. I know Bev scored 19 but also had a good amount of assists, I think 4 steals, blocked shots, rebounds, so that's not stinking it up. Whatever role Lin comes in, Bev and Lin play well together and Lin wants to get Bev going and can so Bev when his shot is falling which further adds to his assets to the Rockets along with his defense, rebounds, hustle and energy. As for Lin, I want to see more assists especially with Dwight, I know he can score when his shot is falling and he mostly played good to really good D but I'd like to see him be more careful around his help defense at times. I'm nitpicking a little but Lin can play even better than he did yesterday, he made a few bonehead plays but that'll happen with Lin.

Beverley is a good player but if he keeps playing like this, he would
end up like Lin in the NYKs--a long recovering time
I really don't know why coaching system here is playing fire.
Risk in player's health, playing them too much, only runs 8 rotations

I would suggest Beverley play aggressive but much less time.
We have already known his potential. Not necessarily to gas out
in 1 year. Meanwhile, get the 4 PFs in the game like delfino did.

I think Lin will stay if the team gets him to BUY into the 6th man role. Like TheBornLoser said, gets his minutes & still be an offensive key. The thing is if you listen to the way McHale talks about Jeremy I'm just not sure he himself can convince Lin. And judging by Lin's reactions when Harden passes him up on the open 3s, those two still need a lot of on-court work and development. But I am loving how well Lin has adjusted to his off-bench/off-ball role.

People who are surprised by Lin's numbers so far this season probably just didn't really keep up w/ the Rockets' stats last season...or let emotion cloud their judgment. Look at Lin's numbers post-all star from last season. He was injured the first few months, had to gel, worked on his shot even more and accommodated to Harden. Eh, I would have easily put good money on Lin's numbers AT LEAST holding steady from the last 3 months of last season.

Lin's overall defense is where I am surprised. I didn't think he could improve it by much but he has. He still isn't as good of a man-on-man defender as Bev, but he's fighting through screens better and learning to gamble on steals in a smarter way. That being said, he's also had a number of dumb defensive let ups on single (but BIG) plays so far, so definitely still room for improvement.

Where did I imply that the 3rd year is a Team Option? I wish Lin COULD leave this year, but he is still under contract. So the year after is all that is possible at this time (if the Team Option is not exercised).

True shooting factors in the extra value of 3 point shooting and more importantly factors in free throws made into shot attempts.

For example, if you make 2 point on 1 shot, that's 100% shooting. If you make a 3 pointer on 1 shot, that's 150% shooting. If you make a 3 pointer AND make an and1 that's 200% shooting. In other words, your 3+1 is 2x more efficient per shot than just making a 2 point jumper from 10 feet.

So, the reason many stat heads like to look at True Shooting percentage is it doesn't penalize people who are good at getting to the line and score points (IE, get zero credit for a shot that they never had the chance to shoot), while it rewards players who not only make a shot but also draw a foul and make their foul shots.

It's a stat that figures in three point shooting and free throws to give you an idea of points per shot attempt (including possessions that end in free throws without a shot attempt). Lin's .666 means that he's getting 1.5 points per shot attempt. That's obviously a totally sick number.

The one funky thing is that it considers each FTA .44 shot attempt, rather than .5 shot attempt. That's done to take into account "and ones," technicals, and free throws for shooting fouls beyond the three point line.

Why would he want to "buy" into being a 6th man?

Well he's definetly looking like he's showcasing his value, because he's playing more aggressive. If he keeps this up there will be some teams out there ready to snatch him up.

I'm r****ded. It means he's getting 1.333 per shot attempt (one and a third), not one and a half. You double the % to get per shot attempt.

If the 6th man is part of the de facto Big Three. And he gets playing time like a Big Three. And he gets treated like a Big Three. And of course, if he gets paid like a Big Three.

Of course he needs to play like a Big Three too. Which I am confident he is capable of doing so ;)

I think he would rather just be a starter somewhere else.
