Uh... yeah. She lost an ovary because of some dumb Catholic belief that contraceptives are wrong. If this was a Islam school denying people contraceptives and an American woman got a cyst and lost an ovary RIGHT WINGERS here would be howling and screaming and condemning the hypothetical Muslim school for their actions. I'm just glad another insane and idiotic conservative zealot is going to slowly fade away from the spotlight.
Of course they don't want that to happen. But because of their policy, they're going to be skeptical of anyone seeking birth control pills for non-pregnancy prevention reasons and inevitably, they will deny coverage to women who really need it. They're OK with women slipping through the cracks and not getting necessary medical treatment if it means other women aren't covered for birth control as it is more commonly used.
So, she decided to go to law school, for 3 years and costing something like 40k a year, just to protest the policy? And btw, 30 year old law students (and feminist ones) are not uncommon. Besides, what does any of this make her point valid or invalid or, indeed, make her a "slut".
This episode in an instructive example of how Slim Pedo constantly lies about everything. I listen to him every now and again and am always amazed that each point that he belabors is almost invariably based on a premise that is an outright lie. Fluke's testimony (and who cares how old she is or what her background is?) had nothing to do with people demanding free contraception or the idea that the wealthy do not contribute enough in terms of taxes. It was about a woman's health suffering because an insurance company denied necessary coverage.
No I believe people would be more outraged that said hypothetical Islamic school doesn't serve pork. They would demand the government force them to serve pork.
Good meta-analysis... Winger media went from being an amplifier for the party to running the party to driving it into a ditch. Worse, you have an entire generation of Repub politicians now raised on this dynamic and nobody within the party strong enough to break it. Worse still, it's setting up perfectly for the winger media... Romney will lose and they will claim he wasn't Conservative enough or true enough. Rhetoric will amp up even more. Jindal, Ryan, and whoever else is stupid enough to try in 2016 will be forced to make the same choices... appeal to the Limbaugh base and maybe win the nomination but certainly lose the general or ignore them and get crushed in the primaries. And all this crap about Limbaugh being just an entertainer is just that: crap. He's no Will Rogers, that's for sure. He's a major figure in the Republican Party and he is powerful, both in real terms and symbolically. In my lifetime, Republicans have gone from Howard Baker to Jim Baker to Rush Limbaugh. Think about that.
That's exactly what happened. That's what she was testifying about. One of their students was on birth control to prevent ovarian cysts. She was denied her birth control and ended up losing an ovary because of the policy of the university. You can act like it's ridiculous to talk about someone losing an ovary because lack of insurance provided birth control, but that is EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED.
[limbaugh] Just have taxpayers remove the other one and that little Georgetown tart has all the birth control she could ever want, though I'm sure she'll next ask us to buy her mouthwash after kneeling on the men's room floor for a few hours. Say, where's the men's room at the Georgetown Law Library? Just kidding folks. Just kidding. I would never set foot in that place. The feminazis might keel over at the sight of a real man. Heh, heh. That's the problem with the Left these days. No sense of humor. Not like my listeners, who are really smart and understand the real world. Now, a word from our sponsor on buying heating oil futures and valuable gold coins at a discount rate.[/limbaugh]
Who forced these women to go to a known CATHOLIC university? They have freedom of choice to attend other schools that do not deny birth control pills because of religious beliefs. If she, or her friend, did not realize that Catholics do not believe in contraception then she did not do enough research on the school she decided to attend. Anyway, they are paying between 30K to 40K a year for an education. Surely, they can afford an extra 20$ to 50$ a month for birth control pills given they CHOSE to attend a university that doesn't offer them. BTW, I am not Catholic. I have no problem with birth control whether it be for contraception or medical reasons. Heck I had a vasectomy 15 years ago. My problem is the government forcing things on religious organizations that are against their religious beliefs.
First of all we don't know whether they are paying the money or are able to attend because of scholarships etc. So who knows what they can afford. I doubt someone who could afford the monthly bill for the medicine would just opt to not pay for it and instead lose an ovary. It's also possible they started attending before they needed the pill to stop the cysts. I think the freedom of religion like the freedom of speech ends when another's health is at risk. For instance practitioners of the religion in India would not be able to sacrifice a 7 year old boy in the U.S. Nor should one's freedom of religion cost a woman her ovary. I also don't believe that having insurance that provides health care is actually the Catholic university providing health care. Any students who feel like exercising that part of the Catholic religion don't have to use their insurance to buy contraception. The fact that it's on the insurance plan doesn't mean practicing catholic students have to use it. Yet someone who chooses to keep their ovaries free of cysts and actually keep their ovary could use it.
Good luck having those determined to slander this chick pay any attention to the facts. They really aren't interested. Sorry, rimrocker, but I ardently disagree. Limbaugh is an entertainer, like Beck, who has tapped into the far-right fundamentalist minority that have control of the Republican Party in order to make money. He entertains, he gets paid, and if people are brain dead enough to take him (or Beck) seriously, then that is on them. Powerful? Only because he's allowed to be. The man is an entertainer. All the rest is an artificial construct, in my opinion, that gives Limbaugh status he doesn't deserve and no doubt finds hilarious in his private moments.
The Fatty fat b*stard routine is better when he does it. If fate is kind, it will bequeath a slew of daughters upon Suns Rockets Fan one day, or as he calls them, sluts.
In the case of the friend, Georgetown's policy has an exception if the birth control pills are used for other reasons, like treating this woman's condition. So it was very reasonable that this woman should expect coverage for contraception, it's covered under the policy. Unfortunately, because of their stance on pregnancy prevention, they accused her of lying about the reasons she needed the pill and denied her coverage even though 1) she's gay (obviously not having hetero intercourse) and 2) her doctor verified that her condition was real. She absolutely had reason to believe her insurance would cover her, even if it was provided through a Catholic university.
I still dont understand why this woman is being called a slut. I get the slander angle, but the reality is absurd.
So if the federal govt mandates Private Insurance to cover birth control for all recepients, well the cost will be passed to all insurance recipients. Higher premiums yet again.
