    I was in Perth last year and really enjoyed it. As others have noted Australia is expensive and Perth is more expensive than Sydney or Melbourne. From what I have heard there is a lot of work in resource extraction in NW Australia but the work is generally hard and in a very remote location. I know a guy who does it and he basically lives in a dorm for three weeks working 12 hour days in 120 degree heat and then comes back to Perth for a week.

    If you are young this might not be a bad thing to do for a year or two and then save up your money for something else after that.
