He looked like the old Lidge last night. Batters were tatooing the ball. Ludwick saved one of them.

The pressure got to him. Perhaps. Lidge will implode in the second half. With the Mets getting hot, imagine if Lidge becomes a factor in the Phillies' demise after the big contract.

20-for-20 with a 1.13 ERA in actual games and save opportunities for his team, under pressure. One run allowed in an exhibition. You make the call as to which is more indicative of his play under "pressure."

I agree with the stats. Lidge has been outstanding so far.

I am just interested to see the 2nd half. Neither of us knows what will happen. Marmol was an absolute stud for most of this season then totally fell apart the last month or so.

Anything can happen, regardless of the 1st half stats.

Lidge was not bad last night, two of those hits were on nasty sliders that they just poked out there.

The one area I fault him for was the walk.......

    That one cost the game.

What will be interesting is to see if this minor failure lingers as they did in Houston....

He was pittching like the old Lidge? The old Lidge is that of 04, 05 and this year. Dominant.

Yes, the Bourn part of the trade has been a bust, but Geary has been a stud. I know he doesn't get any press because he's a middle relief guy, but his IP, WHIP and BAA are very comparable to Lidge's. And his ERA of around 2.20 is nothing to sneeze at as well.

22-for-22, second-lowest ERA among NL closers. Bump.

People on here must really loathe Lidge sometimes. The guy ****ed up on one of his very few blown saves of the season and people are happy? Why the hatred BrooksBall? What's your vendetta against Lidge?

Wasn't even a blown save. Lidge is still perfect on the season. Phillies were down already when Lidge came in.

Lidge is arguably the best closer in the game. He's in the discussion. He's a very deserved all star, and he's helping his team a ton this season. The end.

    Yep.

Sometimes a change of scenery is needed....happened for Wagner and now Lidge....good for them.

I don't hate Lidge at all. I think he's a great guy. I just proposed that maybe Lidge will start imploding after the big deal and a couple of people seemed shocked at that concept. Plus, since he's not an Astro anymore, I would like to see him struggle and not live up to his recent hype. Better for us.

It wasn't just the last game, either. Lidge has given up ERs in 3 of his last 4 appearances, not even to mention his poor performance in the all-star game. And, yes, the all-star game matters in MLB, especially for a contending team like the Phillies.

His last 3 innings of work: 6 H, 7 ER.

Blown save or not, this is at the least a small trend in the wrong direction.

I don't know what more I can say. I've talked to numerous players and managers about this. I've talked to beat writers for other teams. You cannot find even one player, anywhere, who takes the All-Star Game anywhere close to as seriously as a regular season game.

You should also do a little research on those numbers. The "ER" he had against the Mets scored on a groundout, and the runner was only in a position to score because he stole second on fielder's indifference. He allowed no hits in the inning, and because they were up 3, they didn't care about the walk or what he did. He got the save. Are you seriously, seriously trying to use that performance against him?

Moreover, it was the exact same scenario in the Arizona game. Lidge got the save, and a run only scored because they were up 4 and fielder's indifference allowed the runner to get into scoring position. Again, he nailed things down and got the save.

Seems a little silly for you to talk so much smack regarding performances where he did his job (got the save) and runs only scored due to fielder's indifference. Last night was not a good night. To link these other two games (where he got the save) or the freaking exhibition of the All-Star Game as a negative trend is just ludicrous.
