Funny, I played tennis with a Jewish buddy yesterday, and he was telling the story of his grandfather who had a distinctly Irish name and worked as a lawyer for the family that owned Flanigan's. They ran into some dispute with Jewish neighbours and then told the lawyer "we might have to get a Jewish lawyer to deal with this"...and he told them he was a Jewish lawyer (despite the name).

Anyway, the whole "only people with a specific background are allowed to play roles of people with the same background" seems overblown to me. Acting is all about being able to play a role that's not actually you.

Anyone who thinks inflation wouldn't have skyrocketed had Trump won in 2020 is mentally deficient. Inflation skyrocketing had nothing to do with Biden's policies. Do people realize how long it takes for economic policy to have an effect? It just so happened the world opened up right before Biden took office. Economists were predicting a recession in August 2019 after Trump enacted his misguided tariffs. Put that on top of the end of COVID shutdowns and inflation was unavoidable.

 

Also inflation has been dropping in the past year.

 

According to the logic of the person you quoted, Trump should be praised for that. Because, you know, it takes a while for economic policy to take effect.

 

They don't? The COVID vaccine became available Dec. 14, 2020. Inflation started rising in March 2021. You're telling me from Jan 20, 2021 to March 2021 Biden's ecomic policies doubled inflation then tripled it in May? Biden's policies had absolutely nothing to do with the inflation increase. How about you look up "response lag". How come the U.S. has recovered faster than any major country? August 2019 economists predicted a recession and higher inflation due to Trump's economic policy and tariffs. COVID re-openings exacerbated this. Biden has been in office over 2.5 years. His policies have now bypassed response lag and inflation is 3%.

The fact is that inflation is decreasing.

FYI I did think some of the spike in inflation last year was due to too much money being injected into the economy through the COVID relief bills.

 

I'm not a GOPer, but to me it is the power ceded to government generally and the Federal government in particular. We were founded as a country where the government was here to protect us from outside assault, punish those who attacked or stole from their fellow man, but otherwise got out of the way. Taxation was so limited as to be nearly non-existent. People could do what they liked, with whom they liked, and the government didn't have boo to say about it. Now we are highly taxed, highly regulated, and the government plays major roles in the lives of many citizens. That's what is wrong with it.
