The thing about "tearing up the fabric of society" is that everyone, especially among the opposite sides, has an opinion about it. On the left, there used to be huge protests against the WTO on the same grounds that Trump uses against China and NAFTA.

Many in the left will eschew their mistrust against government overreach towards the overreach of multinationals. Multinationals aren't beholden to one rule of law and are more able to lobby, bargain and arbitrage the weakest available nation to get what they want. While it's in their interest and right to do so, this comes at the expense of American public interest.

You see this with offshoring. Hidden are the costs of managing different workforces with different cultures and different business practices across different time zones. I ****ing hate offshoring because I have to be present at 8 in the morning and night. The workforce is a crapshoot and if you draw up deuces, you waste more time and effort compared to hiring a newb fresh out of college. The business reasons for this is plenty and I won't get into it, but this seems ultra relevant to MAGA.

Another example is merger and acquisitions. In order to get tax breaks and accounting write offs, massive layoffs with critical domain knowledge is lost in order to fit a simple ledger that fits IRS accounting rules. With those layoffs come a large influx of people with that now useless knowledge. If you believe that companies lean towards efficiencies, then you have to assume that custom specialization among its employees are the norm. This also means retraining and reinvestment when rounds of layoffs take place. In its wake is the rot you see in Middle America and small towns beholden to a multinational as the primary employer.

Finally, you ever hear the saying, "when I was young, I was a liberal. When I grew up, I became a conservative"? Whether or not that saying is true or remotely accurate, there is a meta point that people change their minds. It's not only people but parties as well. In the 90s Obamacare was more like the Heritage Foundation's Romneycare. Carbon tax was proposed by Republicans. Before the neoliberal surge among Democrats, the left was against globalization (to protect unions and the wages they fought for).

All in all, after some years, you may find yourself thrown across the other side of the wall you pushed to build.

I don't even know what that means. It'd be interesting if you describe it because I hear some cons frothing at the fact that libs are "destroying America" but lose their voice when asked why or how. Regardless, they say it with such weight that's they treat libs as the enemy or existential threat.

If you're a follower of history, historians like to slice different eras...even decades in American society. You can't really say that the current fabric is identical several decades ago. Trumps era will be different than Clintons era will be different than Reagans era. Reagan is long gone folks. You can chase a dream, but a dream is all it is. We gotta make our own Age.
