SketchFactor is racist in the fact it is only available on Iphone. A device used primarily by white people for white people.

    What's the issue?

That an app that is called "sketchfactor" is already rooted in racial and cultural bias. I mean, what defines what is sketchy? Apparently the app's definition of sketchy doesn't match very well with actual crime reports either - showing that it is indeed biased.

The founders may not be racist - which I don't think anyone is accusing them of, but the app appears more to build off of users who may indeed be racist - opinions.

how does wanting to avoid crime-ridden areas make one racist?

    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2462271,00.asp

"....the app does pull in crime data for cities that offer it. As reported by the New York Daily News, Washington D.C. and Chicago are two such examples, though New York City is not.

"We're hoping that an app like this can excite the city of New York into digitizing some of its crime data," said the app's co-founder, Allison McGuire, told the paper."

"On paper, it sounds like a good idea: A smartphone app that uses crowd-sourced data to inform you of the more unsafe areas of your neighborhood. You might not need such a thing if you've lived in a particular area for a while, but it might be useful if you're navigating a new city and have absolutely no idea where you should or shouldn't go."

Again from the PC Magazine review; sounds like avoiding crime to me... why not to you?

I wonder what the future effect will be from today's youth being raised in bipolar world of hyperbolic rhetoric. They have few examples of unbiased reporting or considered debate ; almost everything they will read will be written from a political posture. Will they be able to recognize the difference between propaganda and information? Can they break out of the particular groupthink they are raised in?

We are already stuck with uncompromising obstructionism, will we arrive at a time where polarized thought leads to civil conflict in the US? It's already pretty easy to dehumanize differing thought with language like'liberal' as a disparaging term.
