This is shocking news... shocking because nobody knew they were even still on the air.

    I'll save you the trouble.

It's actually interesting to look at the trend lines, look at the 35-44 taking a dip, while the 45+'s are rising - cause the audience is static and aging.

Yet another example of government involvement (NPR) creating a monopoly (on liberal radio) while consistently losing money and needing taxpayer support.

    *From a closet NPR listener.

Actually NPR gets only a tiny percentage (something like < 1%) of its annual operating budget from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting - they could probably ditch it without much trouble.

Organizing progressive, secular, liberal people is kind of like herding cats. Not really surprised it failboated. Plus, it's a younger demographic and we aren't exactly the radio generation. Give us internetz or give us death.

Considering the Minnesota public radio has started another station, playing indie music, and are still hitting me up for cash I don't think the tiny amount of government funding makes much of a difference.

Also in regard to NPR being a liberal monopoly I heard David From get a 5 min. uniterupted commentary on NPR last night. I doubt Robert Reich will get an uniterrupted 5 min. commentary on Rush Limbaugh or Fox News.

And Gingrich got the lion's share of commentary on the Supreme Court vote -- he was "delighted" and said it is a victory for the middle class. A liberal host would have eviscerated him with good questions, but he had a very long leash.

Anyway, organizing liberals via AM talk radio would be like me saying "hey Clutchfans, let's get together! Who's up for a craft fair this weekend in Pasadena! PARRRRTAAAAYYYY!"

HAHAHAHA it is quite the opposite. Liberals are just mindless drones so they have no interest to get facts, news and information. Which is why there are no listeners.

It's the same discussion we've been having for years.

Conservatism is more self oriented and more instinctual. Liberalism is more altruistic and intellectual. Conservative banter plays to the emotion and elicits a more immediate, visceral response. Liberal banter takes reasoning.

Now, when you look around at the other people, driving in their cars (because where else would you listen to AM radio) do they look like people who want to be intellectually challenged, who get a kick out of " Hmm maybe your right, I should accept a little less in my life for the greater good" or are they " Hell yeah, if it was good enough for my Daddy it's good enough for me" people?

Emotion provoking is good radio, thought provoking is not.

You can just say "All Conservatives are morons" if you really want to, you know.

As for the topic, I thought Air America had gone out of business a couple years ago, so I guess I was mildly surprised. Not surprised it failed, as people my age who are mostly leftists just never listen to radio in general, which is quite a shame as NPR is quite good in general, particularly in Houston with really good classic music.

I did not say moron and did not mean moron.

Human beings are part the animal we are evolving from and part the socialized, civilized beings we are attempting to evolve into. It's yin and yang; we are both and both approaches have their place in the success or failure of the species on this planet. We have to have a sense of self preservation for the individual to flourish, we have to have a sense of the greater good for the species to flourish.

The conservative, self oriented view is rooted in a million years of physical evolution so it has the advantage. The liberal altruistic view has been around maybe 3,000 years and requires the sublimation of the instinct so it has the greater struggle.

The liberal must argue that peace, love, cooperation, and harmony with nature will yield a higher standard of living for future generations. The conservative can just chop your head off and take your stuff.

Your POV is really out of touch with reality. Why don't we just round up all the conservatives and send them to concentration camps ... that would solve all of the worlds problems, eh?

It was amazing how they faked that election on Tuesday and got high ratings in doing so. Oh, it was becuase a republican was being elected...I'm sure that's something to justify those ratings that were posted. Oh wait, they won the ratings battle when Obama was elected too.

TV ratings measure how many people watch a certain program, not the quality of that program. If Fox News was a quality source of news than it would have an even mix of liberal and conservatives or maybe just more liberal viewers, but I'm pretty sure the vast majority of a Fox's viewers are conservatives. So it shouldn't be surprising that the only conservative news channel on cable gets a lot of viewers.
