Congrats on the new vehicle. How much did you pay? Im currently eyeballing the G35 coupes myself. Get the Nismo front bumper, it looks sooo ballerific.
Unless laws have changed, watching movies in the front seats is illegal. Not that that will stop you, but... Most factory systems cannot play DVD movies without hacking them. Several systems coming out now can play DVD-Audio discs, however. The Infiniti Mobile Entertainment System option allows some of Infiniti's vehicles to pop a dropdown video screen for rear seat passengers to watch movies. But like I said, unless something has recently changed, it's illegal to watch movies in a moving vehicle in the front seat. Now if they have the ability to disable the movie-watching feature in the front seat while the car is moving, but allow it while it's parked, that'd be different. First rule in buying a car : don't believe the salesmen. Ask your questions in an Infiniti forum. Go into any discussion with salesmen with more knowledge about the car than the salesman. Otherwise you'll get suckered into making the wrong decision.
Cohen, there are several cars out there where people have hacked together a computer to run their nav unit replacing the stock system. There are a few guys in Acura forums that have done this and it's incredible to see.
You have an Acura? I didn't recall that. I think getting doppler weather and traffic updates in the car would be awesome, but not sure if I would spend the time doing what this guy did to his G35. If those other units work ( http://www.nav-vision.com//eshop/pr...id=40&osCsid=6cc22758d10197339c2c7ebf3daa2bad) I could see maybe adding a computer w/ wireless to my existing Nav system. Would be pretty cool to add portable 200 GB USB2 hard drives for some music and video. Did they just use a converter to power the PC? Seems like you'd need a little more than a surge protector, and maybe a bigger battery. Have you considered doing something like that?
Wow there is a lot of work involved in this. I'm probably just going to buy something like this, if it can be installed in the G35 dashboard... http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6342022&type=product&cmp=++&id=1076628161709
I like it, but still short a Nav unit. We really like ours. These 2 might work: https://www.usatvs.com/getproduct.asp?itemno=5101 http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/product/detail/0,,2076_3151_35039,00.html The nav unit has voice control
I bought an Acura TL back in October of 2003. I love the car. As for the PC hack, no way! I don't want to butcher my baby. Although I'm thinking about putting Catherine Zeta Jones on the Navi's opening screen. lol.
Chrome on a grayish(I'm assuming that's what Diamond Graphite) car? Make sure you know exactly what the wheels will look like that shiny. Personally, I don't like chrome on anything but a white, off-white, or maybe a cream/silver car. My dad just bought the GS430...Wish he had opted for the 300(Better gas mileage), but that's one hell of a car. I'm not a big Lexus fan(Of the actual products...Huge fan of the reliability/service, which are simply unmatched), but this is one model that they got right.
I talked to the guy today, and b/c of the popularity of the car, I can't get less than 5.9% financing, which sucks. I got my last car at 0.9% and was spoiled by that fact. Plus I fear negotiation is going to be tough. My goal is to get from $250 under invoice to $500 over. I doubt that will happen though, again b/c of the popularity of the car. If I liked the G35 sedan, i could probably name my price though!
When I talked to a salesman at West Houston Infiniti, he said Diamond Graphite was easily the most popular color... not sure if that has anything to do with the negotiating factor... * I'm going with a black sedan... except now I'm almost thinking about the M35 instead of the G35.
You're going to have a hell of a time dealing on any popular new car. Especially Infiniti, Acura, and Lexus. There are people out there willing to pay over sticker price for a car that in 1-2 years could be bought new for $2500-$5000 under sticker price - that's what you're competing against and the dealers know it.
The guy just called and asked if I could come again and buy the car today if I was interested, since its the end of the month (to meet his sales projections.) For those in the know, is this legit or is he blowing smoke up my ass to get me to hurry up and make a purchase? It sounds legit, but I'm weary of car salesman. . . . I think I may soon become the Lil' Pun of automobiles around here.
The end of the month is the best time to buy a car I've gard but I mean if your getting the price that you wanted then I guess its all good
Good Lord. Anyway, yes, it can be legit, but he's also trying to play the "sympathy card" on you. No one but you should make the decision of when to buy. He's also trying to get you to buy the car now so you won't be swayed by going anywhere else. Just try not to crater when he starts talking about how he needs to buy clothes for the kids and they want to go to Disney Land. Your biggest issue right now is the best time to deal on a car is the winter months. You're starting to get into the months where there are a lot more people looking for new cars for their kids, for themselves because they gave their old ones to kids, etc. If you haven't made up your mind, I'd wait.
I bought my TL for sticker price - a plane ticket and some free lug nuts and trunk tray they threw in. Some were paying $500 over sticker to get it. The TL was selling like crazy. The biggest problem back when I bought was that you were lucky to get a car with the navigation unit in it, so if you were waiting on the right color + navi, you were screwed. I lucked out and got both. And don't be fooled, these manufacturers have a way of creating shortages and buzz for their vehicles.
