Actually, he accused too_good of having the same IP address as BTM from the beginning, and MacBeth as having a similar one. It seems he made a mistake with the MacBeth link, but if the others are identical then there is not much room for interpretation and mistake.

Hey peope calm down, I know first hand that things can get out of hand now and again as I have had my heated debates. I can understand that, but damn let's just flip the page and turn the corner now, k? Good let's continue with the topic at hand. And for the new members welcome to the bbs I am sure that no one is looking to riff with you so let's just discussed things rationally, thanks.

No, he said MacBeth and toogood is the same person. To quote him "then he must be sitting right next to you"

So if he's now accusing BTM of being toogood, then he is also accusing Mcbeth of being toogood, and therefore BTM. Since he appologised to Mcbeth, then it must mean he's not accusing him anymore, therefore he backed off of what he originally thought was a fact.

Furthermore, If he is now willing to concede Mcbeth and Toogood arent the same person, then he should also concide that many torontonians using Rogers have identical or close to isp's, as evident by comparing Mcbeth's and toogood's.

    Okay...

    heyP..I appreciate the apology.
    kurtz/others... I appreciate the support.
too-good...I appreciate, but disagree with your argument. I will address that further in a bit, right now I've got a headache.

To Everyone...I did put a lot of thought and work into this thread (and, God help me, I even did math!) So is it possible that we could salvage the initial discussion out of this current argument? Does anyone besides too-good disagree with my contention that Carter is unfairly compared to Jordan? Anyone agree? Hello...anyone? Anyone? Bueller? anyone?

    JAG,

Again, I apologize for the numbers looking identical and setting off my alert. I looked at them and saw identical numbers. I was wrong. But too_good is identical to BTM.

    DS,

I'm not an admin. I run the hardware, and can monitor your access to this server. Deal with it. It is not something I abuse. There has only been 3 posters Clutch has ever banned who he has alerted jqh1 and I to.

BTM is the lastest. I merely monitor these 3 people.

I have a 100% accusation rate on nailing their new UIDs. If I am wrong about too_good, then the odds are worse than an inside straight, and that is why I got him talking. To see if it was a coincidence; to see how he responded. I have not reported anything to Clutch, yet. But I do, indeed, have too_good speaking and Art Vandelie (a bi-uid) backing him.

I know, in fact, you are Art Vandelie. Or is that again just some miraculous IDENTICAL perfect IP address match that really wasn't the same Clutch City member. UHHHH! Answer me that! Or quit defending your friend BTM, who is also too_good.

You do not know what you are talking about when matching IP addresses. Don't bother lecturing me on odds and how Toronto is sooo big.

Like I say, in all my 10,000 posts, I've yet to PERFECTLY match any Houston Road Runner member, and you are saying the odds are higher in Toronto.

LOL I can't believe you still think I'm BTM. Man this is getting to the point where you are starting to depress me. There is no way in hell I have the same IP as BTM. And Toronto is a much bigger city then Houston.

You do have a the very same IP address as BTM. That is an KNOWN fact.

Everyone...Notice the difference in how he and Art Vandelie are arguing versus JAG. JAG was wrongly accused based on me seeing two numbers in two emails that I thought were the same. Look how JAGed responded versus BTM and Art.

They are going on some lame offensive claiming Toronto being bigger that Houston means IP address PERFECT matches are more likely there than here.

    Lame argument.

They both have perfect matches and look:

Kurtz refuses to say he is Art Vandelie

    and

too_good wants us to believe he's being treated poorly as a new poster.

ummmm... since when have we seen a new poster react in some sort of casual logical manner facing blatant attacks on their character from a 10,000 post poster in their very first post.

you are a novice BTM. Give it up.

    nuff said.

I don't really understand the logic behind the argument styles but I do understand the point about the IP addresses being the same. I have also learned not to bet against Crispy. If Crispy says that too_good is BTM then that is as close to a fact as I can get. Bye Bye too_good.

    JAG/MacBeth,

I'm sorry for suspecting you could be BTM. I thought it would be crazy if it was true; thankfully, it is not. Hopefully, you can get your old post count back.

I have to echo crash's sentiments. HP brings up some good points and knows what he is talking about with this IP address stuff.

So, too_good is too_gone and can enjoy his stay at the ESPN boards...

In all my life I have never seen people as childlike as some of the people in this msg board. I respond to an arguement that MacBeth raises and someone comes in and ruines the whole conversation. I suppose were all supposed to accept your word that I have the same IP as BTM. Considering you already claimed that I was MacBeth, heypart's word is completely and utterly meaningless. I suggest heypart just stick to what the original intent of this board was meant to be; the unfavorable comparison of Vince and MJ.

For what it's worth - I live about 60 miles outisde Toronto and also have Rogers as my ISP.

My IP# is differs only in the last 3 digits (which heypartner can confirm) from the ones he exposed earlier in this thread. I know exactly who BTM is since I post/lurk at every Raptors messageboard and to be honest - I can't see BTM = MacBeth. If MacBeth = too_good then I can't comment on since I don't know who they are.

heypartner - I'm no expert on servers and IPs but is it possible that Rogers (or any other provider) can route posts/traffic thru certain "virtual" IPs or servers that would lead the numbers to be so similar? I know from a sign industry messageboard that I go to that two people from opposite ends of the country could have an almost identical "proxy.aol.com" or other such IP info listed. Rogers is also known for revolving IPs so that people don't use their computers as servers. I have to update my IP info every month or two when my service cuts out.

Anyways - I think the gist of the whole thread is this: Don't compare Vince after 4 years to Jordan after a whole career. Jordan didn't accomplish much until his 5th season and first won a title in his 7th. Only after this many years or after Carter's career has been better defined can any real comparisons be drawn. Both Kobe and Carter are capable of comparison at some point - but neither has done anything at this point to be worthy. Carter hasn't won and Kobe won because of Shaq. Put Kobe in Toronto all by himself and he has 0 rings as well.

hp is not claiming either of those to be true. He did earlier, but admitted it was a poor reaction.

    This is funny.

Ummm heypartner...Now why did you have to go and get pissy like that.

"Deal with it" Next time ignore the lame attempt a political correctness and tell me to Funk off next time. In all reality I dont have to, and how well do you respond to people who tell you to deal with it?

"You dont abuse it" Looks like you were wrong in accusing MacBeth or Jag and went out of your way to try and prove it making him seem like a liar. You spend your day "analyzing" posts and patterns styles in them, but when exactly did you become a writing analyst expert? You dont call that abuse? I guess this will be the part where you claim that you were just doing what you should be doing. But fact is you were wrong and slighted someone in the process.

And by the way....Kobe at this point is a much better comparision to MJ than Vince is. As far as pure skill and talent goes.

I disagree. Based on skill and talent there is really not much difference between Kobe and Vince. There is a difference when it comes to some intangibles and defensive intensity - but these aren't easily included under "skill and talent" IMO.

Take away what either has won, lost, scored or defended - and you have two virtually identical players. I'm talking things like size, physical condition, scoring ability, defending ability and potential. Kobe has made better use of the "same" tools by virtue of being on a better team (Shaq) and having a better coach (Phil) than Vince can claim.

Put Vince on the Lakers for the past 4 seasons and do you not think that Shaq + Vince would still have won the championship under Phil Jackson? I'm inclined to think they would. By contrast - had Kobe been drafted by the Raptors, had Antonio Davis as his best big man and been coached by Lenny Wilkens - I bet you that he would not have fared much differently than Carter has. The difference has been the surrounding influences and learning experiences IMO.

I agree almost wholeheartedly, although I do think there are differences. What is more, each have proven something the other has been unable to, by virtue of circumstance...

Kobe has proven he can win the whole damn thing, which Carter has yet to approach doing.

Carter has proven he can carry a winning team, something Kobe has never had to do.

I may be biased, but I suspect that the more difficult of the two, over the long term, is the latter, as the pounding VC takes, mentally and physically, when night after night the opposing team is geared primarily to stop you alone, seems to me a more difficult task than it would be for an exceptionally talented player ( as both these men are) to shine in the clear light afforded you by the attention Shaq gets fom other teams.

For either of these guys, playing 1 on 1 is too easy, and Kobe gets to do that most of the time, while Carter almost always faces a 2 deep double team ( One guy playing tight man on D, especially to Carter's right, his prefered drive, to take away the shot, and one man drifting off the nearest Raptor to guard against VC's drive if he gets past the first man.) which is an entirely different game. Also, the guy opponents try to pound and wear down on the Lakers is Shaq ( a la hack a Shaq) while Kobe gets off pretty light...which one would you foul? Carter, on the other hand, gets pounded on a regualr basis.

But they are both exceptionally talented, and when Shaq retires ( or if his toe is really a long term thing, as most Western GM's are hoping)we will be able to compare them more realistically.

I don't think you can easily make the statement that Carter + Shaq would have won the championship. The fact is Carter is incredibly inconsistent in the playoffs (Knicks series). Also there is a huge gap between the two with respect to D. I don't think you can attribute coaching for this. If anything Vince having played at UNC, under Dean Smith, and Kobe only in high school, it would appear that Kobe playing for Phil is not that big of an advantage. Lets not forgot who the winningest coach in NBA history is. Also, the supporting cast of the raptors is not as mediocre as you present it to be. The raptors had Oakley, Davis, T-Mac, Christie, Mo Pete, and other quality players. I would venture to say that there is not that big of a difference between the supporting cast of the lakers and raptors.

Having said that I feel that the only time we can truely compare kobe and Vince is when kobe plays on a team without shaq.

    1) The 1st playoff thing is something of an overstatement, as a few things about that series must be taken into account.

    * It was his 1st ever playoffs, in only his second season, and he was clearly The Man...and it was in Madison Square Gardens.

    * If you review that series, Carter was just POUNDED, almost more than any player I've ever seen, and (surprise) in NY he got no calls..I mean hardly a one..Not only wasn't it star treatment, it wasn't even close, and many claim that that was the origin of Carter's ill-advised but fairly on-going fued with the refs since then.

    * Most important of all, their coach, Butch Carter, was sabotaging the team, and they weren't at all prepared for the series. It has since come out that Butch wanted either to assume control of the team, or wanted out ( and the bonus $ his contract afforded him if that happened) and was doing everything he could to ensure one of the two happenings. With him complaining about his lack of power, the young players, etc. the team closed out the season by losing something like 9 of their last 10 games to slip out of home court advantage, and the turmoil was so great that Tracy McGrady puplicly stated " the ship is sinking, man, the ship is sinking." He brought a lawsuit against an opposing player to open the series, he was attempting a coup within the organization by trying to get Vince and T-Mac's support for him replacing Glen Grunwald as GM, and other similarly beyond-distracting actions coming from the man in the position which normally would be looked to for calm guidance for a 1st year playoff performer.

In terms of defense, I agree with you hands down.

In terms of coaching, I disagree...Lenny Wilkens is barely above .500 for his career, as he is also the second losingist (!?) coach in history behind Bill Fitch, and has never really shown that he knows how to build around a star, his one ring coming very early, and with a team of very good players, not built around a great one, and since then his teams have been most notable for good seasons followed by poor playoff performances. Phil Jackson, on the other hand, silenced any of my doubts with what he has done in LA...he understands how to win with star players.
With regards to supporting cast, I would agree except for one thing...but it's a pretty big one;Shaq. The difference between having some pretty good players and being paired with the single most dominant player in the game is immeasurable. Had McGrady stayed, it might have been a lot closer, and a lot more interesting to watch in the Finals every year, but as it is we're talking different stratospheres.

The reason I can't give JAG back his account is he a) apparently doesn't remember his password and b) does not have access to his email account. That's BBS account death unfortunately. I can't go <I>around</I> the security by getting an email that says, "Hi... I'm so-and-so of the BBS .... I can't get my account info so please send it to [any account that is not assigned to that BBS account]". Otherwise, what's to stop anyone from writing in and saying they are Sir Jackie Chiles, or Achebe, or whoever?

I've tried to remind everyone -- keep your email address current. It's the only way you can get another password if you forget your current one, and I can't make exceptions unfortunately. Sorry :(
