I don't know about Leslie's business philosophy, but for me, I think I would definetely pay well to the ppl who could actually help me..

Chuck Hayes has earned my respect last year, so I think giving him the minimum is way too CHEAP and a serious insult IMO.. With a hustle guy who is short but can give the team 15-20 quality minutes at the 4/5 spot, I think $2.5-3 Million should be about right..

If they sign or trade for any reasonably skilled PF...and Landry is as good as his new fan club claims...and given that Novak and Reed are 3-4 types...Hayes is expendable unless he's really inexpensive. $2m tops if that.

Chuck is worth about 2yrs/$4MM. If another team is idiotic enough to offer him 3yrs/$10 or more:

Bye bye Chuck. Congrats. Enjoy the money. Good for you!

I would like to keep him around and try to play him SF after we get a decent sized PF and let Landry be the backup. Hayes could be very good defensive oriented rebounding type of player like Tayshaun Prince. Anyhow I would offer hi m what Bonzi got 2 years at 2 mil a piece. Fair enough for a one dimensional undersized non scoring threat PF.

I don't think he deserves 4-5 million, I would say more in the 2-3 million range sounds fair for him. His hustle is good but I would think we can get someone taller with the same hustle for around 5 Mil.

Ya gotta at least pay the man 4 mil

Despite being undersized and having no offensive skill, Hayes is strong, is an excellent rebounder, and plays good post defense.

If I was Chuck, Id feel disrespected if the HouRox demanded that I stay on basically a rookie salary (2 mil) after all my hard work and sacrifice.

If it tops 3 million, let him walk. I think Landry, even down to the demeanor, seems like the exact same player...except he's a bit taller, is a better athlete, and can actually shoot a jumper. And don't say "he's a second rounder...he's not going to replace a starter", unless you're ready to remind me in what round we drafted Mr. Hayes.

I think it all depends on the luxury cap situation. After signing our MLE FA, making all the trades, if we still have plenty left over under the cap, then that's how much we should pay Hayes.

If we somehow land someone like Rashard Lewis + full MLE FA, which would take us way over, then I can't imagine Les giving Hayes a big contract due to the luxury cap.

I think $2-2.5 million per year max for this guy. Chuck has always played hard for this team and he always brings much needed energy and rebounds, but let's be honest, he's an average role player with very little offense and he's probably a bench player next season. I don't think many teams are going to give him big offers, so he should re-sign with the Rockets.

What can the Rockets offer with the Early Bird Rights? That should be good.

2.5-3 million. Anything more than that and you're overpaying, if slightly.

Why is there no option for a 10 million per year contract??? Didn't frank brickowski get that much? Chuck is a million times better than he was. lol. Chuck deserves more than 2 mil maybe between 2.5 - 3. He played suffocating defense on both okur and boozer in the playoffs. He made yao look like a pansy on the defensive end when he came in and started blocking boozer's shots. I would love to have another chuck hayes on the team in landry. I think that they can compliment each other while playing at the same time since landry can hit shots. seriously, those two would gobble up EVERY single rebound. Offensive and defensive.

i think the guy deserves at least 3-4 million a year for a good 2/3 year contract. he played pretty well with yao and he can still be a pretty good back up PF. if the guy ever develops a mid range jumper he'd be awesome but chances are he probably won't. for all you bashing him about earning more than 2 mil take into consideration that he played an important role in us winning 50+ games last season. without him we would have had to start juwan and im pretty sure we would have been torched at the 4 position for a majority of those games. i just think the guy deserves at least 3 million for what he can bring to the table.

Hayes is not expendable. Counting on Landry to replace him would be sorta like the Heat counting on Simeon (sp) replacing Haslem after draft day. Looked that way on paper, but never materialized in the NBA.

Hayes will be back. There is no team he would be more important to than the Rockets. I'l like to see the Rockets roll out a 4 year 8 mil deal (money ball offer). If he wants to shop around, fine, but the Rockets will match probably anything under 4 mil year--not that I think anyone else would offer near that.

No, that is just over the MLE level. As valuable as Hayes is, that would be out of whack.

There is a .00001 chance a team with cap room who can offer more than the MLE is going to use it on Chuck Hayes.

Paying over market value (ie what he is offered outside) just means the Rockets have less cash to spend on a starting PF.

Until he gets an offer from another team, it's $770,610.
