First of all the things that were listed in that letter, are not the way it is for illegals in this country except in a few minority cases. Teachers don't have to speak Spanish.

Many illegals do pay taxes and social security, and never file for refunds or receive social security benefits. Medical care for them and their entire families is not always free, especially if they have a chronic condition like diabetes, at all but maybe one or a handful of schools the Mexican flag was never flown above the American flag if it was flown at all, and the list goes on and on.

    It is a stupid letter.

THIS JUST IN:Mexico is not the U.S.

Mexico doesn't make the same claims about their identity, goals, or history. They do not claim to be the land to which people flee and as of this morning, have no statue in downtown Cerritos begging the world to :
"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door. "

But thanks Aceshighlife7 for spreading nationalism, hate, fear and jingoism, have a good week.

Batman, this is disgusting of you.

First off, his "discrimination" is against ILLEGAL aliens. Of course the question to ask is what is his "discrimination?" Nothing so far as I can tell. He posted a piece which turns the tables and shows how ridiculous turning a blind eye toward the lackadaisical immigration policy of this country actually is.

Secondly, you call him an "utter *******", a "spoiled brat", and a "jingoistic racist."

Thirdly, you state your "hate" for him and accuse him of "hat(ing) people (he's) never met that are less fortunate that (he is)."

You need a Time Out. It being 4AM and your having compromised judgement for a temporary period is not excuse.

I'm calling a bigtexx on you!

why doesnt anyone raise the issue of the LEGAL Americans hiring the illegal workers? They are the ones who withhold the taxes, the illegal workers (who dont get paid by cash under the table) pay taxes it is then up to the employer to declare and pay the taxes and alot of them dont. Imigrants have contributed to the billions left in unclaimed social security and never come for it.

There are pros and cons on both sides

because according to the neocons its the people's fault. its always the peoples fault. its not the fault of buisnesses for breaking the law by hiring illegal aliens and than paying them much less than they would have to pay americans (natural born or immigrant). its average americans fault. how dare you question buisness, who are the ones benefitting the most from illegal immigration.

just like how bush said americans are addicted to oil - high oil prices are our own fault, dont you see?

just like how in the wake of the dubai ports deal bush said we are all a bunch of bigots and we are hurting our image abroad. this from the guy who has thumbed his nose at our allies and been generally pissing off the world for the last 5 years. dubai was our fault too.

    its all our fault.

Don't show it to Kinky. If you do it'll be his next TV commercial.

That would imply that the issue will be debated in public and a real solution will be sought.

We really need to tear that statue down. It starts to get embarassing that people can keep throwing that in our faces, even though the inscription on it is about as binding as one you might find in a bathroom stall.

Seriously, the letter is dumb. Half of it, I don't even know where it comes from. Plus it completely ignores the millions of US citizens who speak Spanish and have an hispanic heritage and should be accomodated because they are citizens of our country. It also ignores the American half of the illegal immigration problem and grossly simplifies and misrepresents the impact of illegals on the country.

I disagree. If you live in the US, you should learn English. I know we do not have a official language but who cares. We speak English. If you want to be here, then you need to learn it. If not, don't go crying that you can't read signs or documents and everything else. If we cater to the Mexican population there where will it end? Every other nationality that is in the US that speaks a different language could then b**** that they can't read English. It comes down to them being too lazy to learn English.

This thread interests me not because of the subject, but because of the means the information is spread. I'm an admitted Liberal, I gave money to Kerry, I'm on a bunch of email lists, and I never get emails with simplistic bromides that tug at my emotions and encourage me to support a particular position. What is it about Republicans (or perhaps the Right Wing) that places so much importance on these kinds of messages. We see it over and over again in chain emails and on righty blogs and often posted to this board... missives treating a difficult, complex issue that demands thought reduced to a partisan rant written at a Reader's Digest level. Anyway, it's interesting (in a banal sort of way).

When I was in Cabo they had signs in English too. It's just that the Spanish was on top of the English.

Learning English is good for the Immigrants. They should do it. If they don't learn it, I don't see that it hurts anyone but themselves.

Why does it bother an English speaker if an Immigrant limits their options by not learning English?

I'm not talking about Mexico, I'm talking about the US. What they do is their business. I figure the only reason it is that way is because Cabo is a tourist destination. I haven't been to many places in Mexico but I would venture to guess that it isn't like that through out the whole country.

Because our tax money is paying for everything to be bilingual.
