I'm eager to see how it fares for Rondo when he has to carry his team alone not far in the future after Garnett/Pierce completely break down. That would decide for me whether he could be as good as Jason Kidd in his prime.
Phoenix is running, and Nash is having a great year. He's one tough cookie. Wouldn't be surprised if he has five good seasons left.
yeah agreed, i reckon nash has another 3-4 great years in him. on a side note, is it me or is kevin johnson rarely mentioned in BOAT PGs? i was talking to a few friends recently about the best point guards of all time and non of them mentioned or even remembered kevin johnson. the guy is great; 20+ points and 10+ assists. that is pretty impressive. I guess not having rings is a downside.
I agree, Curry's Nash-like in terms of shooting and passing - great recognition of situations... PG's usually grow in their 2nd and 3rd years... he's already one of the most exciting players in the leaue
Am I the only one who's not sure why you have these two guys ranked below Brooks? Devin Harris is certainly having a down year, but his previous two seasons were at least as good as Brooks' season this year, and he's young enough that he probably isn't on the downhill slide. Stuckey doesn't distribute enough? I haven't watched the guy play a ton, but he seems to distribute it as much as Brooks (and the assist numbers would back that up), and he's not nearly the defensive liability that Brooks is. Other than that, I think you did a good job with your list.
I haven't been able to see Jrue Holiday since he became a starter for a terrible Philadelphia team due to injuries. What aspects of his game stand out? I know he's young, but how good is his natural ability to set up teammates and make decisions? Don't just throw names out for the sake of it, give us your reasoning. Nash is 36 and Kidd is 37. That's closer to 40 than 30, but both those guys look to be in great condition. Crawford was a slip. I disagree. Both are career bench players. Hill comes off as a tweener and Lowry has no vision, skill or outside game.
On the bubble youngsters: Which way do you see these guys going? What signs of potential have they shown to differentiate themselves from being mediocre? Darren Collison (New Orleans) - Good starter but not good enough to be a star, very awkward jumpshot. Jonny Flynn (Minnesota) - Very similar to Aaron Brooks but doesn't look to score as much. Mike Conley (Memphis) - Solid PG but not as explosive a scorer. Won't be a star. Jerryd Bayless (Portland) - Could be a solid PG but he's more of an off guard. Ricky Rubio (Minnesota) - Star whenever he joins the NBA. Runs the pick and roll like Nash and is so smooth with the ball. Louis Williams (Philadelphia) - Who? John Wall (undrafted] - Star potential.
Mo Williams should at least be in the cat of "on the bubble vets" cuz he was a great yung gurad killin it for the Bucks b4 he went over to the Cavs he jus gets overshadowed and a bit lost in the shuffle of "LeBrons supporting cast" also he was an all star last year too so hes not jus a role player
Bubble Youngster: John Wall(undrafted): will probably be the best PG when its all said and done IMO; besides his jumps shot(which is still developing) he has everything you want in a PG; standing at 6'4 with a rumored 6'10 wingspan, and athleticism that rivals (if not surpasses) that of Rose & Francis; with the speed of Brooks and with great court vision, I don't see any other PG with a higher ceiling ... Ricky Rubio(Minnisota): when it comes to Rubio, I'll put it like this... Had it not been for Griffins amazing second year in OU, and Rubios buy out; I have no doubt Rubio would have been the 1st pick overall in the 2009 NBA Draft, not to mention his court vision rivals that of Jason Kidd and Steve Nash, his also a legit 6'5 (reported by Sac) with amazing handles ... IMO he will be the next generations Jason Kidd... Darren Collison (New Orleans): From seeing him play I think he has all the tools to be a really good starter in this league, Similar to Brooks in terms of speed with Collison being a tad bit more athletic, playing behind chris paul will most certainly help him with his passing ability ... Jonny Flynn (Minnesota): I've never been sold on Flynn, specially last year when the Wolves took him with the 6th pick, I think He'll be a solid starter but never really a star ... for some reason though he reminds me of a poor mans Jameer Nelson(but not by much) Mike Conley (Memphis): I'm still perplexed on why Memphis took this guy with the 4th overall pick in 2007; will eventually be a good starter... but never a star IMO Jrue Holiday (Philadelphia): His one of the most underrated up and coming PG in the league IMO; he was the top prospect out of High School in 2008(over players like Evans and Jennings), His still only 19yrs old, he showed me a lot of potential on the defensive end when he played against the Rockets, and was able to stay in front of Aaron Brooks despite being much bigger at 6'4; he also showed late in the season the ability to attack the rim an take contact and finish inside, another thing he showed was nice range shooting 39% from three for the season In addition to your list ... theres a couple of high prospect PG coming out of High School Class of 2010, who are projected as high lottery picks in NBADraft.net | 2011 Mock Draft : Brandon Knight (Committed to Kentucky) Cory Joseph (Undecided) Kyrie Irving (Committed to Duke) Its going to be fun to see who comes out on top with all this up and coming PG talent... --RB
He has the tools to be a very good NBA player, but a very good PG? Ie, court vision, patience, setting up plays, running a team... what if he ends up being an athletic tweener in the Marbury/Francis role? The NBA hasn't been kind to those guys. I agree with this. I was never sold on Raymond Felton either and both these guys seem like they'll have a few breakout performances each season but won't be able to produce the consistency of the more successful PGs in the NBA. Thanks for the breakdown. I still haven't seen him play a full game (only highlights) so I was interested in why there was a buzz about him. Philly also has a tweener PG in Lou Williams who was putting up very good numbers before he got injured. Definitely.
