It looks like we're on the front page of the NCAA basketball section on yahoo. Just like I suspected.. the talent is there but the chemistry is not.

With North Carolina’s Harrison Barnes struggling, there are some scouts and analysts who believe that Baylor forward Perry Jones will be the No. 1 overall pick in this summer’s NBA draft.

For some reason, though, Jones is averaging just 7.6 field goal attempts over his last three games.

It’s no surprise that Baylor has lost two of them.

Once a top 10 team, the Bears appear disjointed heading into Big 12 play. No one questions Baylor’s talent, as Scott Drew’s squad returns several of the key pieces from a 2009-10 squad that reached the Elite Eight.

Still, as battle-tested as some of the Bears may be, no one on the roster features an upside quite like Jones. It’s time to let him loose. To do that, Baylor needs to get him the ball.

And for that to happen, LaceDarius Dunn needs to quit shooting so much.

Especially when he’s cold.

Dunn attempted 22 field goals in a Dec. 23 loss to Washington State in the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu. Two nights later Dunn was only credited for 15 attempts in a setback against Florida State. But he went to the foul line 17 times in that contest, so it’s obvious he had tunnel vision just about every time he caught the ball.

Look, I’ve got no problem with players taking shots when they’re hot. But Dunn shot less than 33 percent in those losses (12-of-37) and often attempted shots he had no business taking. Double-clutch 3-pointers, pull-up jumpers on fast breaks with three defenders in front of him and no one there to rebound, floaters in the lane that get swatted out-of-bounds.

Other than passing, Dunn tried just about everything in the two-game span that saw him average 26 points. But who cares about his gaudy scoring stats? His team lost both games. That’s all that matters.

Dunn – who averages 21.8 points – may be the best shooting guard in America. The senior is chasing both the Baylor and Big 12 scoring record and stands an outside shot at earning first-team All-American honors.

Still, basketball is a team game, and Baylor is stacked with high-level players.

Quincy Acy is a future NBA forward and one of the best leapers in the country. A.J. Walton is beginning to emerge as a point guard and Anthony Jones has improved dramatically from last season.

Then there’s Perry Jones, who may be better than all of them. Jones attempted just six shots in 31 minutes against Florida State and only nine two nights earlier.

Eventually, Dunn needs to let him in on the action, too.

Probably the worst game of the season by Baylor today ... Taken to the wire by a 2-9 TX Southern team at home?

Up until now I was sure Baylor would turn it around and get it going before conference play, but they may have further to go than I thought.

I didn't get to watch it but it seemed like the defensive effort was there but Lace didn't shoot well again. I'm going to guess that it was bad shot selection again.

We'll know soon enough I guess. We open at Tech Sat and then host OU. Both teams have started off rather poorly so maybe Iowa State will be our toughest test before the big match-up against Kansas.

Decent start in conference play for Baylor. 2 double digit wins but it's just a start. Perry Jones has started off hot averaging 22.5 ppg on 18/22 (81.8 %) from the field.

Keep feeding the guy. Dude is rolling in his last 3

WACO, Texas (AP)—Freshman guard Gary Franklin is transferring to Baylor after starting 11 of California’s first 13 games this season.

Baylor coach Scott Drew said Wednesday that the California native has enrolled in classes on the Waco campus. The 6-foot-2 guard will have three seasons of eligibility after sitting out the rest of this season and the 2011 fall semester.

Franklin was averaging 8.2 points for California when he said that he was leaving last week. Cal coach Mike Montgomery said he was disappointed but wished Franklin well.

As a senior at Mater Dei High in Santa Ana, Calif., Franklin averaged 17.4 points, 4.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds a game and was the California Interscholastic Federational player of the year.

Ok Baylor Fans ... At what point does this become a coaching problem? ... Way too much talent there to be playing this poorly.

I still have to believe the Bears are going to pull this thing together at some point.

Definitely a coaching problem. Dunn's green light is ridiculous. His shot selection is probably the worst in the country.

I hope you're right. Man I wish that Udoh had stayed.

Jones has been great. Too bad these guys can't miss a shot. 75 % from the field in the first half.

Morris brothers raped us. Turnovers and bad ft shooting has been the norm this season. At least, the next 4 are winnable until the tough one against A&M. Scott Drew needs to get his head out of his rear.
