Ok. Well that changes things to an extent. People make mistakes. This is a huge one by Dunn & I hope he learns from this. This has nothing to do with basketball. He needs to mature as a human being.
http://community.foxsports.com/good...r_tells_different_story_of_lace_dunn_incident Baylor senior guard LaceDarius Dunn has been suspended indefinitely following an arrest for aggravated assault following what police are calling a domestic dispute with his long-time girlfriend. The incident, according to the Waco Police Department, occurred on Sept. 27 when officers were called to Hillcrest Hospital to investigate an assault. Waco Sergeant Melvin Roseborough told FOXSports.com that Dunn was charged with second degree felony. Lacharlesia Edwards, 21, suffered a fractured jaw after what policed called an argument in which the 23-year-old Dunn punched Edwards in the face. However, Edwards’ father, told FOXSports.com on Tuesday that the incident was an accident. ``She said it was an accident,” Charles Edwards told FOXSports.com. ``She said she sneaked up on him in the dark and he hit her by mistake. It wasn’t a fight at all.” ``She doesn’t want to press charges or anything like that,” he added. ``She’s torn up now that he’s been arrested.” Charles Edwards said his daughter and Dunn have been dating since junior high school and have a 3-year-old son, Dillion, together. ``I’ve known him for a while and was hearing nasty things, so I drove down from Monroe, Louisiana to Dallas to find out,” he said. ``I knew it was out of character, so I wanted to see for myself.” ``My daughter is much better,” Edwards added. ``She’s fine. She and I really both thought this had already been dropped.” Baylor put out a statement following Dunn’s arrest on Tuesday that he has been suspended indefinitely from all team activities while the school continues to ``gather all the facts surrounding this incident.” The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Dunn is considered one of the top returning players in the country after averaging 19.6 points last season for a Bears team that lost to Duke in the Elite Eight.
"maybe we can get him back by conference play..." Real classy. A woman gets her ass kicked, and you are worried about him being back in time for conference. Gotta love Baylor! So here's how it goes... Girlfriend knows she's about to lose that meal ticket without babydaddy, so all of a sudden she doesn't think that whole broken jaw thing was any big deal. Of course it was an accident! Let me guess. He threw his bible at her? Felony ass beating and I bet you ANYTHING he is back by conference play. She will say it was no big deal, he loves her and would never hurt her, it was all a big misunderstanding, the police blew it all out of proportion, yadda, yadda, yadda. Baylor fan will call it a conspiracy brought on by jealous Agggies and Longhorns. Lace will say all the right things, smile, you love me, I'm an athlete, that kinda thing. Coach will have him on the bench before the first conference game. Guaranteed! Come on Coach Drew, prove me wrong... I still hate Baylor. More than ever. I can't WAIT to see where this goes... -Hank the Mouth Breathing Cowdog
Nothing like "fans" of other schools gloating over someone getting their ass kicked. Stay classy aggy
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkc/men/7234144.html Girlfriend of Baylor's Dunn wants charges dropped Associated Press Oct. 6, 2010, 12:01PM Duane A. Laverty Waco Tribune Herald via AP WACO — The girlfriend of Baylor basketball star LaceDarius Dunn denies that Dunn hit her and is appealing to authorities to drop an aggravated assault charge from what she calls an accident. Lacharlesla Edwards, 21, also pleaded with Baylor coach Scott Drew to lift a suspension and reinstate the Bears’ leading scorer to the roster. “He has never struck me during our long-term relationship,” she said in a statement issued through her attorney, Jason P. Darling of Waco. Waco police have said officers were called to Hillcrest Hospital on Sept. 27 to investigate an assault on Edwards after Dunn punched her in the face during an argument. Edwards, mother of Dunn’s 3-year-old son, denied that in her statement. “What happened on the night of Sept. 27 was an accident and I went to the hospital for precautionary reasons,” she said. “I never expressed any interest in pressing charges, nor will I in the future press charges on this incident.” She denied reports that her jaw was broken. “I am fine and my jaw is not broken as is being reported. My family and I wish to put this situation behind us. Lace and I will continue our relationship and raising our son in a good environment,” she said. In conclusion, “I respectfully request that the District Attorney’s Office dismiss these charges and further request that Baylor University lift their suspension,” she said. Drew suspended Dunn on Tuesday after the charge was filed against the senior guard. Messages left Wednesday with the McLennan County District Attorney’s Office and the Waco Police Department were not returned. Baylor would have no comment beyond a Tuesday statement that university officials were “working to gather all of the facts surrounding this incident and fully cooperating with investigating authorities,” said basketball spokesman Chris Yandle. Dunn was a second-team All-Big 12 pick while averaged 19.6 points and 4.8 rebounds last season when Baylor set a school record with 28 victories and got within one win of making its first NCAA Final Four appearance in 60 years. He set school records for points (704), 3-pointers (116) and free throw shooting percentage (85.7 on 126 of 147 free throws). In April, two days after 6-foot-10 power forward Ekpe Udoh said he was bypassing his senior season at Baylor for the NBA draft, Dunn said he was staying. Udoh was the sixth overall pick by Golden State. In 106 games over three seasons for Baylor, Dunn has averaged 16.4 points and already has the school record with 299 career 3-pointers, 91 shy of the Big 12 record. He is fourth in school history with 1,739 career points. He needs 451 points to surpass Terry Teagle as Baylor’s career scoring leader, and 518 to pass Texas Tech’s Andre Emmett for the Big 12 record.
The mentality of domestic abuse victims is often very sad. This almost sounds like that Lugo situation that got him booted off the Astros. I don't think any of us can say what happened, but if the prosecuters believe that he did what has been accused, they can, should, and will press charges regardless of her wishes and he should be expelled. If they don't have a case, then it should just all be dropped quickly so everyone can move on.
The question I have is what she said to authorities while she was initially in the hospital. Her statements there may be enough. If she didn't say much there then I definitely agree with you, but if that was the case I am not sure why he would have been charged in the first place. I guess its back to the original point that we really have no clue. No matter what happens though, this is a huge setback for Dunn and could severely impact him come draft time.
Ahem... "Girlfriend knows she's about to lose that meal ticket without babydaddy, so all of a sudden she doesn't think that whole broken jaw thing was any big deal." Told you so. She got time to think about that money well going dry, didn't she? Relax, Bears, Lace will be back. You have nothing to fear! I'll check back from time to time... -Hank the Mouth Breathing Ignored Cowdog
call me Nostradamus. http://msn.foxsports.com/collegebas...a-investigating-baylor-mens-basketball-101210 Oh well, it was nice while it lasted for Drew.
did you read the article? An assistant was sending some text messages to a kid's coach at the wrong time. Those are the allegations. Not exactly the kind of stuff that tears down a program or gets a coach terminated. Particulary if they were self-reported by Baylor, as the article indicates.
LOL I sense severe butthurt in this one. Let the investigation take it's course and then we'll see what comes out of it before you jump up and call me a r****d. For all we know this whole texting business is just the tip of the iceberg.
