I'm just so used to it now that it doesn't even phase me anymore. The crowd was ready to explode but was deflated instead. Blown calls are the worst part of sports. Especially since it seems like it always happens to the teams I root for.
The officiating was clearly in favor of Duke, and that is just outrageous. Zoubek should have fouled out in the first half. He nearly always brazenly pushes in the back to get a rebound, and he is very wild. I feel sorry for the Baylor players. In addition to playing against the 5 Duke players on the court, they also had to battle the morally challenged officials. Playing against Duke in college is analogous to playing against Kobe and the Lakers in the NBA; they just seem to get pivotal game-changing calls in their favor.
I'll give Baylor credit on one thing in particular - that crowd was fantastic. Most people here know I grew up a Longhorn fan, though now Mizzou is my priority since I went to school there. That said, I still support UT (when not playing MU), and I was at their Elite Eight game in the Alamodome in 2003 when they advanced to the Final Four. I had a great time then, but atmosphere was nowhere near as electric as Reliant today. This was special. Just wish it had been capped off better. That said, if Udoh stays... yeah, you lose Carter, but add Perry Jones, assume more development from the rest of the younger guys, and maybe we'll all be back at Reliant in a year.
Udoh said he would return and I don't think an elite 8 run will change that but I guess you never know. Scott Drew won't go anywhere for sure if he returns. Losing Carter will hurt due to his play-making abilities and nice shooting touch, however Walton & Love (committed but unsigned) should be able to get the job done.
As a UT fan I went to Reliant to cheer on the Bears. I want to say congradulations on a great season. A little better officiating, better shooting(from the field and FT line) or rebounding missed FT's. If one of these three thing had gone the Bears way they would be in the final 4. In addition to the ACY call the 5th foul on Lomers was a bad call. IMHO Hank you are a word that rhymes with class.
That's what is disappointing. We were one of the better rebounding and ft shooting teams this season. Losing Lomers hurt us big time. College basketball is supposed to purer than the NBA imo.. It sucked to see all of the borderline calls going in one direction. I received texts from numerous non-baylor fans about the questionable officiating. No excuses though. We didn't make the shots when it counted and they did.
Im just calling it how I saw it FROM THE GAME. There isn't a circle like there is in NBA to say a restricted area. It was pretty close.
I normally "hate" Aggies, but that just stems from competition from sporting events and stuff and good natured fun. Thanks for the support and overall sportsmanship, Refman. Don't worry, we take note. Trust me guys, when you put Hank on ignore, it's so much better. The only time I read his posts is when he's quoted here. Even so, it's so good to know he's wrong.
Well there is a giant facebook group of about 3,000 Baylor students called "Dont Go, Udoh" and I saw today that Ekpe actually joined the group so maybe he is giving us hints. And before anyone says anything about it being fake, it is actually him. He also joined another large group called Baylor for the 2011 National Championship,
As much as I'd like it to, I'm not sure that carries any weight. It just makes sense for him to enter the draft. Here are some reasons why he should: - Impending CBA changes next year, with cheaper rookie contracts - He's 23; scouts are already using his age against him. - His stock is high, partly from the elite 8. - ESPN mock draft has him in the lottery, going around 11th - World Wide Wes called him his "nephew" - Hello, DaSean Butler It just makes sense. I think Baylor fans who think he's staying are setting themselves up for unnecessary disappointment. And, FWIW, I asked him the other day when I saw him on campus, "Ekp, have you decided if you're going to the league yet?" He just said, "Naw man, its tough, its tough."
You would have to think that he would like to have the chance to win a national championship and with him, lace, and PJ3 next year we have a legit shot.
A look ahead. Katz has us at 6. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/columns/story?columnist=katz_andy&id=5060752
Damnit. All Baylor fans are sad but happy for Ekpe and hope he does well in the NBA. If he stays in, I really hope that our Rockets draft him, that would be awesome.
