My understanding is that he had spent all night at project prom (no alcohol) and that the authorities believe he fell asleep at the wheel on the way home.

I have no idea if this is true, but this is what I heard.

This news is tragic. An extraordinary young man whose life was cut WAY too short.

I can only imagine the pain his family feels today. My prayers go out to them.

Well there have been differing reports, but this is not looking good. T&P to the innocent woman killed in this tragedy as well. Whether this report is true or not (Other reports had said alcohol was not a factor), Drinking and Driving is an epidemic in this country and something needs to be done about it.

Everything I am hearing is that he fell asleep on the way home after the After Prom party. Alcohol was not involved. I have been in contact with his family members.

The AfterProm was held at Dave and Busters and is designed to keep kids from drinking and driving. Sadly, it appears he feel asleep at the wheel on the way home.

I really hope that is the case and if so it fits in line with everything I had heard about the kid prior to this. It's terrible that abc let it get out like that if it is not true. Either way, still a horrible tragedy and I can't imagine the pain those families are going thru.

    great news..

But there's also bad news. After dragging the appeal process the entire summer, the NCAA decided NOT to grant DRo a medical redshirt. I guess Shipley deserved 10 extra years of eligibility but DRo who had a freak accident did not. What's sad is the fact that this took them so long to announce the decision kept DRo in doubt. Do I pursue European teams or do I stay in Cstat and prepare for the season?

    screw the NCAA

If those people comprise the NCAA then they should find a new line of work. If the school a player plays for influences their decision making or the timing of such decisions, then they lose the supposed moral high ground upon which their very existence relies.

He played more than 20% of the season. While the injury was a freak accident, gruesome, and extremely unfortunate, it doesn't change that fact. Even Turgeon said:

Bringing Shipley into it, who missed two entire seasons due to injury makes you sound like a bitter Aggie. Which I suppose you are. The decision had nothing to do with Aggies "annoying" anyone.

If it is a hard and fast rule, then so be it. There is, however, a rule that gives the NCAA the ability to grant additional eligibility on a case by case basis.

The application was made months ago. If the NCAA was going to rely on the "hard and fast rule," then waiting until the day that NBA summer leagues ended to make the decision official seems a little punitive.

In any event, the timing of the decision certainly was not in the best interest of the student athlete.

Ya the timing was crap. At times it seems like the NCAA acts quick and does the logical thing, I think there was a Clemson DB who had the rules bent so he could support his brother. Something like that... other times you have them screw people over like kicking out Dez Bryant or not reinstating Mike Williams when he left early.

I successfully predicted that post from PF, almost verbatim, and the Shipley comparison the second I heard the Roland news.

I don't think the NCAA cares about the NBA summer leagues. From their perspective, they made the decision a good 4-5 months before the season begins.

I truly feel for Roland, his injury was unfortunate. But his situation is not comparable to the Clemson player who had to go take care of his brother, or the Wyoming(?) football player who got an extra year after he was wrongfully incarcerated for 2 years. Roland's injury took place on the court, after he had played 20% of the year. You can appeal just about anything, but I don't know why you would even think it might go through. You get a redshirt based on the number of games you miss, not based on the severity of the injury.

Good game. Impressed with Kourtney, RFT and Naji tonight. It was hard to believe that there were less fouls called tonight than the first game.

Haven't been able to watch a game yet, but I have heard that Roberson has been amazing. If Naji can gain some confidence and be the guy that can create his own shot and BJ can locate his shot that was missing last year, this team should be pretty good.

I'm still thinking we are definitely going to be behind K-State, Kansas, Baylor, and Mizzou this year. Texas should be better, but who knows how Hamilton is pull it together so they could be a toss up.

ESPN 3 is freaking awesome. I watched the game on my laptop at Evans last night  .

I like Naji a lot, but I don't think he is the "create his own shot" kind of guy. I think he's at his best spotting up or going through screens. Look for Turgeon to run a lot of that for him this year.

The guy I have really high hopes for is Middleton. IMHO he's the key to this season, if he can figure it out and become a reliable go-to guy, we are in good shape. If not, then we're in for a long season of Dash/BJ making it up as they go down the stretch. Of course you have the reliable weapon that is Lobeau, but I don't feel comfortable going to the post down the stretch. Refs tend to swallow their whistles and it gets really physical down there.

Anybody planning on attending one of those "Tuesdays with Turg" deals?

Yeah the problem is that I thought he was supposed to be that kind of guy, but he definitely did not show that last year. We really need someone to be able to do that. I think that is really going to hurt us in some close games this year.

I wish they had "Tuesday's with Turg" when I was in school. I was stuck with Melancholy Monday's with Melvin.
