My mind tells me that we're going to get absolutely destroyed Monday night, but my heart wants me to believe that we might pull out a huge upset that would revolutionize Aggie basketball forever. A packed Reed Arena and coming off 2 good wins would only help. But no, I'm sticking with destroyed. Btw, to you old school Aggie fans, Dat Nguyen one of the greatest A&M football players of all time was added to our football coaching staff. Pure awesome.
Weirder things have happened, and this A&M team just seems to pull it out. I suspect that Turner will see quite a few minutes in order to combat some of Kansas' size inside. If Turner, Davis and Loubeau play well and Holmes is back for real, there may be a chance...I just doubt it will happen. This is such good news. When I was a senior at A&M, I met Dat when I went to Cain Hall to work on a group project with QB Brandon Stewart (I am Old Army). Dat was a really nice guy and I believe that his demeanor will make him a good recruiter as well as a coach.
The real good news is that he won't be coaching at USC like reported. That was just... wrong. FYI Dat Nguyen started "who dat".
I'm sympathetic to the Ags tonight because it's almost impossible to go up against Cole Aldrich with the way the Big 12 officiates. Hell, he may have just seriously injured Dash Harris and not even a personal foul was called, much less a flagrant. The physicality that Aldrich is allowed to get away with - simply based on his name and the program he plays for - is just unreal. He's borderline dirty, too. If NBA refs officiated Yao the way the Big 12 officiates Aldrich, I firmly believe the Rockets would have at least two titles this decade.
I like the no call. One of the few reasons I love college bball. They get to play. The 3pt line is so freaking close, no defensive 3 seconds, gotta at least let em get dirty down there. Just so happens to be to our disadvantage.
His reputation as a defensive "presence" is so well-established that unless he outright clotheslines a guy (which he almost did there), you're just not going to get a call. He's really not that great of a defender, anyway - his lateral movement is mediocre, and he compensates by reaching and leaning all over the place. The Big 12 refs just won't call it. I think he's very overrated as an NBA prospect and I honestly could see Kansas being an upset victim come NCAA time - they're going to have some issues when they meet an officiating crew that isn't in awe of him.
Man Kansas is insane. Excellent perimeter defense, then if you do somehow get at the rim some super athletic freak comes out of nowhere 3ft above the rim to send the attempt back down to Earth.
Good first half thus far. I'll take a 2 pt lead. "I just want it to be fair" - Turgeon. So do I coach. Some questionable calls in the first half.
Some very questionable calls... They start off by the no-call on Harris which sent him to the ground. Followed up by quite a few calls around the basket in favor of Kansas. Also, the technical on Loubeau for grabbing the rim could of gone either way, but I do not believe it was worth 2 shots for Kansas. Loubeau was already up there and probably was expecting to get the ball in the basket and his natural reaction was to grab the rim.
I thought that too. Announcers didn't question it, but I thought he got it before it hit the glass (and was on way up).
Ahhh nice effort. Couldn't pull it out in the end. Settled for three straight 3s on 3 different possessions before it was necessary imo. Dang.
Difference between this game and the big games we won prior to this (Baylor, Mizzou, and Tech) was missing wide open 3s down the stretch. Man I was really hoping BJ turned the corner, but he just can't get his confidence back this season. Lobeau messed some BIG FTs also, but that is not outside the norm.
Great effort, but in a game like that, shooting 45% from the line will kill you every time. Ags had plenty of chances to extend the lead and potentially put kU away but inconsistency from the line kept it close until the Ags hit a dry spell late. In many ways, kinda the reverse of the game you guys took from my team (Mizzou) late a couple weeks back. Very impressed by the Ags, regardless. They'll recover well.
