In the end, every team in the Big 12 South plays the same opponents the same number of times...same goes for the Big 12 North. It's not like they have back to backs in college.
did anyone ask him what the big xiii's motivation would be to intentionally make a possible ncaa tournament team's schedule too difficult?
Turgeon is a good coach, but he's really starting to live up to his reputation as a crier/ whiner. Come on, dude, like others have said, every team in the south plays the same schedule. Sure, there are some tough stretches, but it's not like the schedule makers can guarantee who will and won't be good from the outset of the year.
Well I see what he is saying. Mentally it can defeat you. In the polls it can really hurt you too. TAMU went from completely out of the tourney to a top 10 seed in a 2 week span. The hole was deep, seemed insurmountable, he had to really have his guys focused. But ya, he whines. I don't like that. Most Big 12 coaches whine though. Except Mack Brown.
for all of you crybabies calling Turg a crybaby, please be quiet.. Longhorn fans would've gone insane and whined about it every single time they get the chance to get on TV.. they would've started a bazillion facebook group like the "45-35" schtick.. we took it like men, we got screwed by the schedule, but we didn't b**** about it, we pulled together and got things done, then, after we succeeded, we let em know that we noticed the B.S scheduling.. the Ags are the ROckets of college basketball, they never get the benefit of the doubt.. just re-watch the UCLA game-winning "defensive" play with the 2 dudes hammering Sloan to the ground.. but we did it, Turg can say whatever he pleases..
I really hope the Aggies can avoid another heartbreaking loss in the tourney this year....well, I hope they don't get blown out either.
I still have nightmares of the UCLA game, blowing a slight advantage in the end, and having every break in the game go against us, then Sloan splits the trap and I get excited anticipating a dish or a layup, just to have him get HACKED by 2 players with no call and hearing the commentators hail this play as one of the "greatest defensive plays of the year"..
If it makes you feel any better, he would have missed a free throw. The missed layup by Acie hurt more because of championship possibilities and having A&M playing in the Elite 8 in San Antonio. The 3pter by that LSU dude was just a heart breaker. I was yelling at AK the whole time...and during the preceding timeout I kept repeating "no threes".
That 3 was from beyond the NBA three if I remember correctly. And I think the guy who hit that shot is STILL playing at LSU. After that Memphis loss the entire Northgate area was like a funeral.
How did you get screwed? You play the same schedule as the other South teams. You play the schedule you're given. The schedule also got easier and allowed them to solidify their spot in the end. Do you really thing the Big 12 has it out for A&M? What purpose does that serve? A&M are not the Rockets of anything. Re-watch every single game that comes down to the last shot. When you find one where there wasn't a lot of contact, let me know.
While I don't think A&M got screwed on the schedule I think we were unlucky. For a young team that lost major players last year, it would have been nice to have some winnable games early to build confidence. On the flipside those tough games could have prepared us for our late season run. To me, thats just the way it goes. I like what Turge did though instilling a me against the world attitude in this team and I am positive that is why he said something about it. As for the last play of the UCLA game, there was WAY more contact on that play than the usual end of game play. That picture was shown on Sportscenter, PTI, and all the shows after the game and when in Vegas there were so many impartial people talking about that screw job. That doesn't happen after every last shot game ... sorry. I don't worry about it too much though because Im not confident Sloan would have hit the FTs and even if he did UCLA had the momentum going into OT. Would have been nice to see what would have happened though.
I think I am going to be sick. We are now squarely on the bubble. It could go either way. Fortunately, this is the same Tech team that beat Kansas last week by 19 points on national TV.
Meh... embarrassing loss for sure, but A&M is still in. Our updated RPI after this game should be #34.... Still in without having to sweat it too much. Still 10 spots ahead of the highest over .500 major conference team ever left out. Still actually ahead of Texas at this point (#35). K-State has to win the tourney to get in. Embarrassing loss, but we're still in with room to spare, so don't lose any sleep.
bad loss, but I still feel comfortable. As for A&M away from home, we've beaten a decent Nebraska team on the road, Alabama on the road, and LSU on a neutral court. The guys thought they had the game won and just quit playing. At least they learned this lesson in the Big XII tourney and not the NCAA tourney.
