Yep, Nash had an amazing game, Brooks had a better game since he won. Not to hate on both of them though, but neither are the greatest defenders in the world.
I agree with the trade the rockets made but in reality, all decent point guards have great games against Steve Nash, he is the absolute WORST defensive player in the league imo. Rafer used to torch him and Rafer was one of the most inefficient starters in the nba
Lowry is a far better defensive/overall player than Brooks but to be fair, that Nash pick and roll with Shaq or Amundson was killing everybody who tried to defend it. That includes Brooks, Lowry and Battier.
1st game this year Steve Nash 33 minutes 10 pts. 4 assist 4-10 shooting So yes that is defending Nash well. Rafer Alston 26 minutes 15 pt. 4 assist 7-11 shooting.
That's a joke. Brooks is not the type of player you build around. Not even close. I obviously was pulling for Brooks since we drafted him because I wanted a change at the PG position but unless he makes some dramatic improvements in his game, he will ultimately be a scoring PG playing off the bench in this league. Lowry is a far more well-rounded player and it would be almost as much of a joke to say we should build around him. The only reason AB is starting right now is his seniority on this team and possibly the fact that he is supposed to be the better outside shooter. If things keep going in this general direction, I wouldn't be surprised to see Lowry starting by the end of this season. Hypothetically, if AB and Lowry both joined the team at the trade deadline, Lowry would be the starter even if he theoretically doesn't space the floor as well for Yao. Lowry has the edge on Brooks in every aspect of the game other than long distance shooting.
There are certain matchups where Brooks looks to be a little more effective defensively than Lowry. He seems to move his feet better, and he's better at chasing guys around screens. Lowry seems to get caught under screens and lose his man at the 3-point line a lot. Maybe he's still getting used to our defensive schemes.
If you want to just talk stats, at least talk all-around stats, not just points scored. (Nash has also 14 assists.)
Alston defended great the p&r defense, it's VERY VERY difficult to be effective with Yao as partner, he doesn't help you anything. Rafer was underrated on defense, I repetead that every game. Yao is a big problem in every p&r if he doesn't have a very good (and smart) defender as partner. And with Alston in offense: True, 3 bricks per game... and 40 possesions well executed. Brooks is caotic, you never know how will finish the play when he has the ball. And the problem is he has the ball too many time. Overall, I think we were a more solid team with Rafer Alston running the point, at least that's my opinion. But obviously, it's impossible to prove that now.
I would be very happy if any of our scrubs can match their superstars in score no matter how many assists they have.
We'll get a pretty good idea in the next month or so. We've been taking advantage of a home schedule for the most part since the trade. I want to see how Brooks responds over a number of game on the road.
