No, but they will grab things that are on the seat - CD cases, cell phone accessories, etc - anything that can be sold for some value. That actually happened to me.
I don't know, I've only lived in The Heights for a year but I have yet to see or hear a single cop car speeding down 11th or Studemont. The area north of 20th is a little different from the area south of 20th though... I can get to Minute Maid Park from my driveway in 10 minutes!
Klein ISD is a top-notch school district. they just opened a new HS, Klein Collins, and it's an awesome looking high school. my little sister goes there. i'm pretty sure Clutch attended Klein, aka hot girl central. Spring is a real nice town, although it's expanding like a mofo - but so is all of the houston area. many beautiful subdivisions all relatively cheap compared to the rest of houston. and there's much more nature to enjoy. i've lived in spring all my life (cypresswood area), until i moved to college, and couldn't complain at all about the quality of life. and I-45 N officially kicks ass now. i'd say the nicest part of the north houston area has to be The Woodlands. beautiful homes, beautiful surroundings, and cheaper than "inside the loop." and with the Riverwalk opening up and the indoor/outdoor expansion to The Woodlands Mall, that place is only getting nicer. plus, awesome golf. of course, it all kinda depends on where you're gonna work and if you're willing to make the commute or not.
Oh no. When I say an hour, I actually mean an hour of 70mph+ drive time to get to the city limits. Anyhow..I guess inside the loop isn't as grand as I had heard. To clarify, though: I'm 26 Single Had gone back to school after a long break, getting close to finishing (UH) Have a management job to pay the bills while in school. Not much, but decent. The reason I bring up moving is because I will soon be in a position to transfer, and have several options. About Clear Lake: the traffic thing was one big concern. Of course, depending on my schedule during the semester, I can avoid/get caught up in traffic no matter what. I hadn't considered Sugarland, though. For some reason, I always thought it too far away. Basically I'm looking for an area that's a) not too expensive, b) has a lot to do, c) an environment where I can meet a lot of people around my age group.
The Katy area off I-10, Grand Parkway is really nice. Excellent school district, large homes at decent costs(six figures). Cinco Ranch is really nice as is the area on fry which makes up green trails and Kelliwood. Nottingham country isn't bad, and we have Windsor Park now, where I was told Yao and his family live, which is really nice. There are a few apartment complexes out here as well, but based on your criteria, apartments around westheimer seems like your best bet.
Right, not all of suburbia is a paradise, but if you're looking for value, it's increasingly difficult to get that inside the loop. I've BEEN living inside the freaking loop, near downtown, for almost a decade. The first place I looked to buy was in this area, and its disturbing to see that when you go to www.har.com and look for a house on the west side of the Inner Loop for 200k, you pretty much get some shotgun shack looking things w/ cheap hurricane fences, shoddy construction, and questionable surroundings. Some of you act as if the Inner Loop is the East Village in NYC. Here's some breaking news: WE LIVE IN HOUSTON. Because of weather, (lack of) city planning, and traffic you will NEVER walk around your area - you will DRIVE to everything. YOu will DRIVE for coffee, beer, food, women, to meet people your age, etc. We don't have a subway. No one walks. So unless you are renting, and are the type of person who doesn't mind tossing $8-900+ a month just to live in one of these new stucco apartment "communities" sprouting up in Montrose, you SHOULD give areas outside the loop serious consideration. I'm not advocating he or anyone else up & move to freaking Katy, but if you're not exactly rolling in cash, or you're looking to buy a home & maximize your value, you are prolly best served getting an apartment down Westheimer or Richmond, or buying a house outside the loop. Also, while there are a few decent apartment deals (5-600) in the Kirby/W. Alabama areas, the type of place you get, compared to even a place (and stripper haven) like 7979 Westheimer, isn't the same value for the $.
I hear the Four Seasons will be offering their top floors as condos soon I live in Pearland and it is no place for a 26yo single guy. Try WestChase (what people are calling the Royal Oaks area). The Westpark Tollway is going to make that area very convenient.
