geez rook, do you just not get it?!? You can NOt sign anyone once ur over the cap, except for the exceptions. Dallas overpaid a lot of their players and used it as trade bait. It takes awhile to bring that salary up, with a lot of unused taxes
Why do I get the feeling some of those members enjoy being a**h***. It is just pathetic. You can give your opinion on the topic, or ignore it, or complain to clutch if you feel you have to. But showing your superiority by chiding a rookie for giving his honest opinion is unnecessary.
it's not even the chiding, but we've explained over and over again how this works. It's irritating when we explain over and over, have it ignored, and went back to bashing the salary system.
I can see some are irrited by the posts for whatever reason. Some are, in fact, happy to find a target talking nonsense to. life is good.
I'm Ron Burgundy? <img src="http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d116/xxshadypinkxx/ronburgundy.jpg" border="0" alt="Ron Burgundy?"></a>
and it's not all rookies in general. Everyone loves a good conversation, even at 2:30AM =P.... It's the idea that you're talking to a brick wall sometimes that prolly is getting people upset here. However, if you make an account, and basically start your first post bashing Rockets management for whatever reason without researching for details, then ignore reason when it's being explained. Yeah, I'd say that's a little annoying for those who have been here for years and were looking to spend their time here waiting for intelligent Rockets discussions.
Where can I read more about the details of the NBA salary cap? Is it not a flat number cap? It must not be if the amount teams spend on player salaries vary as much as they do Bobcats to Knicks.
not just miami, san antonio and detroit [ take the wizards and phoenix and New "that money can't win championchips" York
T-mac on New Season : "We still need stronger Backup" He said, "To be the champion, We still need stronger Backup ,just like Dallas got stackhouse as the sixth , Spurs got Finly on their bench." Ref: http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2006-09-11/09432450070.shtml OKay, we sign no one because of salary cap. Okay, we can't do anything ,just accept it like a ostrich. Even if we fall down at last steps to champion, we still have a good BBS where no rookie will bother us . Good Luck!
I think this guy is just doing this to mess with ya'all...Nobody can be this annoying and ignorant...
One of the most interesting things about this poster is that he insists we spend a lot of money to build a championship team like Dallas, who has never won an NBA title in their franchise history. They have been to the finals once. They continually have one of the top payrolls in the league, yet last year was the first time they even sniffed a title. You look at teams like Detroit and San Antonio, who are proably the best examples of teams that do their best to be financially responsible and not have a bloated payroll...those are the teams that have won the titles in the past few years. Detroit just let Ben Wallace walk for nothing. They signed Billups for the MLE a few years ago. Rip Hamilton has a very reasonable contract. There is no huge contract on that team and I believe they are better for it. They might not win the title every year, but they aren't strapped with so many bad contracts that they won't have any flexibility when the guys start getting older and wearing down. The same can be said for San Antonio. They have Manu Ginobli (a 2nd round draft pick) locked up for a very reasonable contract. Duncan is a max player with a max contract, not some overrated talent that got a max deal just because his team was desperate. Tony Parker was signed to a reasonable deal and drafted in the late first round. They lucked into Michael Finley because Dallas cut him in order to save money (see, even the world champion Dallas Mavericks cut good players to save money...oh wait, they've never won a title...). IF ANYTHING, those teams are evidence of the fact that making smart draft picks and finding diamonds in the rough are how you win titles--not by spending excess amounts of money. As a matter of fact, I can't really think of a team that has gone out and just signed tons of all star players that have won titles. When Los Angeles did it, they nearly got swept in the finals by the Pistons. It didn't work for the Blazers when they were trying to purchase every name player in the league. It sure hasn't worked for the Knicks. The Mavericks have gotten close, but even they fell short to the Heat. We aren't hating on you because you are a rookie. We are hating on you because your argument makes no sense, is impossible to execute, and you don't seem to want to accept that. Either that, or you have mental handicaps that don't allow you to comprehend facts.
Jingle has a good point. I don't understand why everyone is flaming his interactive analysis. It may not be possible to sign a lebron, but that's not what he said. He just said to sign a quality role player even if it costly or overpriced for the player to strengthen the 3 quality players we already have
Sure...if it weren't for that darned little thing called the NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement. We are over the cap. We can't sign anyone unless it's with one of the exceptions (most of which are gone anyway), or if we're re-signing our own players. As of now, we effectively only have the league minimum to work with. How do you propose signing such an "overpriced" player?
Alexander defininately can spend a bit of more money, for example, for Mike James for one more year, use trade exception for other players etc. It is his right if he does not want to do it, but some owners want to do it.
The point is, THE NBA DOES NOT ALLOW teams over the salary cap to sign players from other teams outside of the trade EXCEPTIONS and the midlevel EXCEPTION! They're called EXCEPTIONS for a reason. It's not ABOUT the luxury taxes. Dallas gave out bad contracts, which in terms had them going over the cap because those players WERE PLAYING IN DALLAS already. You can sign your own players, just not others. Think about this. Why are there so many "sign and trades." Why would we have to give up something to get quitten. Why would someone like Al harrington not just sign with someone else as a FA. Why are teams UNDER THE CAP the ones that always have a chance to land a big FA. Why is Joe Johnson, as a Restricted FA, only have a choice between Atlanta and Phoenix? Why do so many teams head BACK to their original teams? It's because that's where the MONEY is. Other teams are not ALLOWED to sign players for whatever amounts they desire because it's part of the bargaining agreement. Why does NY have such a high salary cap? Because they trade for LONG, bad contracts by using short bad ones. Why are all their "acquisitions" through trades? It's because that's all they could do, minus any exceptions that they usually trade off as well along with their draft picks. This post would only have a valid point if it's do-able, which it's not, and by not, I mean it's not ALLOWED. We can NOT do this because we're over the cap. Why is it that there are always an agrument about where the cap is? The part that's irritating people is the fact that this was explained over and over again, detailed or not. Links were provided. I do understand that some of you are new to this forums, and in a way, it's obvious. However, if you want people to respect your opinions, maybe you should respect theirs as well because these posts aren't being read. Read the posts before you add on to it. It just might not make people roll their eyes as much.
yes, but then it's opportunity cost. The opportunity cost of signing Mike James to an NBA contract might be the 3-4 others that we could break the exception to. There was obvious talks with Spanoulis as well. Is James worth that?, and even more, can you really believe what James said about why he ended up in Minnesota? He contradicted himself over and over again in what seems to be a money statement, but I digress.... Yes, in THIS instance, money could be spent. Alexander have been over the cap year after year. He's spending money, but it's where the WISE money are spent that makes a championship. Every move by the Spurs/ Suns/ Pistons, etc for the past few years have been money. They draft smart, play smart, and spent smart. Money given up on Joe Johnson = money to keep other players. Diaw was a cheaper option and turned out to be more valuable. Barbosa became a better player and others were able to pick up the slack. Barry was not the great signing, but his threat, compared to cheap contracts to Udrih (drafted), horry, Muhammad (through trade), etc, paired with DECENT contracts with Duncan, Parker, and Giniboli made them the perfect compliment. Detroit relied on their defense, and with defense comes cheaper contracts. The numbers get to players' heads because that's how they match their salaries, based on these numbers. Why do you think most role players aren't paid much? Because they do the dirty work that helps you win. He knows it, the team knows it, but the numbers don't warrant as much. Spending the money wisely got them to where they are now. Meanwhile, teams like the Lakers with Kwame, the Jazz with Boozer, the Sonics ever since they signed those big men to big contracts, the Knicks with ... their whole team, Indiana with Croshere (handcuffing them with those contracts), Kings/76ers now with Webber, etc. struggle to make use of their money. Everyone of these owners will probably be somewhat willing to overspend somewhat for a championship, but it's also these spendings that could kill the team in general. When you make bad spendings, you lose your star players because they don't want to lose. That, will then kill any earnings and marketability of your team, and you end up like the Vancouver Grizzlies and the current Seattle Supersonics.
Thanks a lot for your detail analysis and comments. I agree with you. Apparently, The efficiency of money is so important. But Rockets still have to find ways to fix those holes - get qualify role players and stronger backup. Should We get some useful veterans (like Payton in Heats) , or just wait for the Exceptions of next next season? BTW, one more question: If the team pay some players through other ways ( like sponsors), what is the result. Thanks again.
