Actually how good are Juwan Howard and McGrady at running without the ball. I think Yao's assists will go up if Mc Grady can find a way to slash and get to the basket without the ball while people double team him. I think JJ will also do great with people having to double team either Yao or Mcgrady. I am not so sure how much he'll improve on points but I think he'll improve on rebounds and block shots. With that I'll be extremely happy.
JVG's offense never did this, never did that, I'm willing to make bets, set consequences yadda yadda etc etc. Look, Sane, first off, this thread was started asking for our own personal opinionated predictions as far as what affect T-mac would have on this team's improvement. No one is going to predict the exact numbers, there is no real science to it, specific data to math out an exact result or 'face consequences'.. Especially when a team core pairing of T-mac and Yao, and a coach like JVG have never even remotely crossed similar paths. And no one's prediction is going to have leverage over another's. For all the JVG's team's do this but don't do that, he coaches like this but not like that ranting.. The fact remains, JVG has never had a player of T-mac's caliber in his past, he's never had consistent shooters from top to bottom, he's never had a team consisted of a core of Yao and T-mac's age and diverse skills and talents. He's never had a team like this, period. So, NO, I do not know for sure what I predict WON'T happen. Therefore I am not deceiving myself and lying to you. My prediction is based on MY evaluation of T-mac's and Yao's talents, this current roster's consistency offensively, JVG's offensive plan 'in and out', their compatibility, and what I THINK could happen with them placed together on the same team. We have SEEN 'glimpses' of Yao's passing ability, we've seen how he reacts to slashing players when it comes to assist, and we know his potential has yet to realize as he's only 23. Same for T-mac, we have seen his talents, we have SEEN his excellent feel for the game, we have SEEN his good jumpshot, and talents slashing accompanied by an excellent finish. We have SEEN his diversity and flexibility, as a role player and a superstar. It's obvious how compatible their style of play is. Hence we can actually try to deduce what their play on the same team could result as. As for JVG's attitude, his usage of Yao last year, and extent of flexibility, we cannot really use this in the addition of it all, for we have never seen JVG coach a player like T-mac, or his take to a center, who tires out rather quickly, when a player like T-mac is on his team. Considering those two, are surrounded by consistent shooters. IMO, last year, like I said, was JVG simply strengthing one of Yao's weakness, and not forcing him to be 'Patrick Ewing'. All we know of JVG and his plans for these two and this team, is as he quote goes, "to exceed expectations". And I'm sure we all agree, if he wishes to do just that, he'll have to adapt just a bit to fullfill these players' strengths. For Yao to pass it to a slashing T-mac or an open jumpshooter, which he is surrounded with, does not take great offensive coaching. He is capable of passing the ball, all he needs is permission. And JVG can do that, and maintain his "in and out" strategical game plan in tact. If it's true he wants to 'exceed expectations', and to me he seems like an intelligent man and coach, you go with your strengths. And that's T-mac aa and Yao ab. You do not want another tired out Yao near the end of the regular season and postseason play and T-mac carrying the offensive brunt on his shoulders. He did say, T-mac will not lead the league in scoring in Houston, but I don't see 24-26ppg conflicting with that declaration. All this, if he really expects to 'exceed expectations'. Afterall if he shows a mis-use of T-mac's talents, and doesn't show much improvement compared to last year, he job may be at risk. And with that, I maintain to my previous prediction.
I will be utterly shocked if the combination of Ming and TMac does not prove to be explosive. I think they were made for each other. Francis and Ming together were hard to watch, their games did not compliment each other. With TMac I predict that it will be the opposite. I am looking for 22-10-5 or higher from Ming. I think TMac will average between 25-30 pts per game. And the games will "flow," not look like a powerpoint presentation on constipation ie. last year.
im giving yao an extra 3 points a game just in the name of progress and another 2.5 thanks to The Franchise leaving town... plus im thinking his rebounding will hopefully have a natural improvement of about 1....plus with cato leaving and no matter who they get to replace him its still gonna be more pressure on yao to rebound the ball...so just add another 1.5 for that as well... 23.0 ppg......11.5 rebounds.....3 assists.....2.5 blocks
dude sane... don't take it so seriously. it's a contest to predict yao's season numbers... like predicting the over/under on the superbowl --> obviously somebody's gotto predict way high just in case it happens.
