The best thing for all parties is Ty getting his **** together and overcoming his problem. If you think judging and ridiculing someone for their mistakes is the best way to do that, you're not very bright.

I understand where you are coming from. Hopefully they can get him to hang out with John Lucas or something.

Thats awesome and a really good call. John Lucas has done a lot of his workouts in my high school gym and is good friends with my HS basketball coach, and seems like a really cool person. Good news.

How much of an ******* do you have to be to base your decision to either support or ridicule a guy for continually making an off-the-court decision with potentially lethal consequences for innocent folks on the jersey he will be wearing next season?

The guy is a serious **** up, he just happens to be our **** up for now. Choose how you want to handle a guy that has all resources he could ask for to not be in a position to drive drunk, yet continues to do so, but make it consistent regardless of which team he plays for. On-the-court, actual basketball related stuff? By all means, homer to your heart's content.

It's a message forum; people are going to poke fun at things like this. The guy has gotten 2 DUIs within a very short time frame...it is what it is.

It's like some of you guys are rooting for him to fail. Which makes no damn sense if you have a problem with drunk driving.

It's still a conscious choice. Drinking and driving is a decision made before inebriation even begins.

You can deflect accountability by saying "addiction is a disease," but he's still a prick. And willpower has a lot to do with saying "I'm not going to drink," or "I'm going to drive tonight, even if I'm going out to get tanked." Especially after 4 DUIs. It IS moronic behavior, and chemical dependency doesn't change that.

As for making jokes about it, lighten up. People who are easily offended need to reconsider living. Laughing > choosing to be offended

it doesnt matter if you are a successful NBA star with millions of dollars. 2 DWI's in less than a year shows that you are losing control and spiraling downwards. ultimately he's gotta want to make that change in his life for the better, not to mention his performance on the court and overall well being will likely improve while abstaining from alcohol. hope he makes some good decisions here in houston.

It's not about deflecting accountability. Of course the individual needs to be held accountable.

It's about accepting that addicts make idiotic, destructive decisions. It's about rooting for them to beat their addiction so that they cease making those idiotic, destructive decisions.

Right now Ty is doing his 28 days in rehab. That's just the start of his recovery. As Rockets fans, and presumably as people who would like to see Ty stop making idiotic, destructive decisions, we should be supportive rather than judgmental. There's ZERO upside to ridiculing him right now

Agreed with all of the above, I just took issue to you defending his behavior as NOT prickish or moronic. They are. Chemical disposition doesn't change that when we're talking about grown men.

I'm definitely rooting for him. And I don't think having a laugh at his expense (that he'll almost certainly never read on a random clutchfans thread) means that I'm not. If he gets his fee fees hurt and hits the bottle because of it, maybe he should stay offline or get a better rehab?

Solution: Rockets hire a driver and a car for practice...and games

And deal with his alcoholism separately

Hopefully he doesn't end up like Eddie Griffin. Lawson has serious issues.

Let's not compare the two. Lawson is already 2 years older than Griffin when he died.
