It was Oscar's first taste of the NBA, so give him a break, besides you can't expect a fly by night performance. He'll blend in with the ROCKS!!!
Carl Herrera was a bad-ass! The Knicks couldn't stop him in 1994! Too bad Carl dislocated his sholder (twice!). He was one of my favorite players! Him and Chucky Brown!
Amigo! Gotta love ol # 7 Car Herrera. Injuries and his habit of traveling as soon as he got the ball hurt him! But I loved his low post moves and his lil jumber.
Oscar's stats against Russia: 11 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 0/4 3 pt FG, 33 minutes played. Not too impressive. Since they lost to Russia and finished 0-3 Venezuela is eliminated from the World Championships. link
Well I haven't quite figured out this World Basketball Championship format yet. Venezuela still has two games left in the tournament. Their next game is Sept. 2nd against Algeria at 10 AM. Then they have one final game on Sept. 3rd at 10 AM either against Canada or Lebanon. link Does anyone know if Rudy T is attending Oscar's games also like he is Ming's? Since all the games are in Indianapolis I would think he'd be watching Oscar's games as well.
The losers get to play each to see who the bigger loser is. Every team places. I think they are playing for 16-18 place or something like that.
There are 16 total teams (4 groups of 4). The Top 12 teams (3 from each group) advance. The remaining 4 teams (last place in each group) play for spots 13 through 16. This will be Canada, Algeria, Lebanon and Venezuela. Play starts tomorrow (Monday).
Nice game for Oscar! 20 points, 4/11 2 PT FG, 2/5 3PT FG, 6/8 FT, 6 rebounds, 4 asissts, 6 steals 6 TO Overall a very nice game for Senor Torres. His next and last game will be tomorrow against Canada at 11 AM. box score
I think Oscar Torres should be invited to the Rox Camp. I consider his chances of being the back up shooting guard as 50/50 depending upon the invited competition for that spot. During these games I have noticed several players that could fit our need even better than Torres, including that guy from Puerto Rico. I wonder if Rudy is scouting the other games besides the Yao Ming Games? Mobley needs to cut his playing time to no more than 36mins/gm. it will help him and us in the long run. So we need a player of comperable ability to play his backup, not just a fill in role player!
Thanks for the update, Matador. Oscar's a little inconsistent, isn't he? Anyone know how he's being used? Just SG, or is he playing some 3 as well. Any comments on his D? I haven't seen any box scores, and was wondering how he's been doing defending. The guy showed some flashes of real talent last year.
he is going to filled the void in the shooting guard position. he'll be just fine!!Last year was his very first taste of how is like to be an NBA player and I think he did a wonderfull job but could'nt finished strong in the season. But over all grade for OT, i'll give him B-.
Oscar's Final stats against Canada: 11 points, 10 boards, 7 asissts, 2 steals. Very good all around game for Torres. I tabulated Oscar's stats for the tournament: 15.0 points/game, 6.0 rebounds/game, 3.0 asissts/game, 2.0 steals/game, 0.2 blocks/game, 33.9% FG, 22.2% 3 PT FG, 75.7% FT, 1.8 turnovers/game, 32.2 minutes/game, 5 games played Overall I think Oscar's stats are decent. I am disappointed in his FG and 3 PT percentages. They are just too low for an NBA caliber shooting guard playing against sub NBA caliber competition (on the whole). Also since the 3 PT line was moved in that makes his 22.2% 3 PT FG that much worse. Maybe I am expecting him to do to much since he is just a backup player, but I would have thought he could have averaged more points considering the competition and the amount of minutes he played.
