I predicted 43-39 and the 8th seed. Damn close, argh! Classic quotes from that thread. Gotta love The Cat. lol Originally posted by The Cat 53-29, serious challenge to the Mavs or Lakers for the fourth seed in the West. Two classics from Rocks in the same thread! Originally posted by RocksMillenium So tell me, compare the Suns and Rockets and tell me why they are better then the Rockets? And before you say Stoudemire, I will say Griffin.
It's always amusing to look back at ourselves in the past and see how ignorant we were. It'll be the same next summer when we look back to what we are predicting now, for better or worse.
This was my prediction: Two things could happen: 1. Negative prediction: -The Rockets struggle to beat bad/mediocre teams. -Steve and Cuttino continue to give up wide open shots to opposing guards. -Rudy continues his brand of iso-ball -The injury bug hits again. -Yao isn't used properly. -Rockets miss the playoffs with a 41-41 record. 2. Positive prediction: -The Rockets get another great record against the east, while beating the trashy teams of the west. -Steve and Cuttino play moderate defense, which improves team defense. -The Rockets stay relatively injury free. -Yao is used as a primary offensive weapon outside of Steve. -The Rockets implement this 'motion offense". -The Rockets sweep the Jazz, split the Spurs, and get a game against the Kings. -53-29, 5th seed. The Rockets face the Spurs in the first round and win in four, before losing to the Lakers in six. Yao can really turn this team around NOW, if he is used correctly. I was fairly close to my negative prediction. The only difference is that the Rockets won two more games, and injuries had nothing to do with the poor record.
Man, I got worried. I forgot what I had put. I almost thought I said something bad like 59 wins or Steve gets 13 APG. I was kind of close, though I gave a lot of room. I said we'd win 45-50 games, but a lot would depend on how everyone played. Then again, I had assumed many things such as Mo and Glen Rice starting off good, Moochie just doing something, Boki playing, and Steve and the team being at least a little better in the assists. Man, I learned a lot about assumptions and basketball this year.
The pessimists or realists were right. I was wrong, 48-34. I did pick Ming for ROY which is TBD and Ming for the All Star game, just the rookie game, though, not the main event. Was wrong on Griffin, too.
In one thread I predicted 43-39 and in 9th spot...in this one I said 48-34 5th in the wild west. I guess it was a medicated day. DD
Of course fans are gonna predict a 50+ wins season. Do you want us to say "no, we're gonna suck...why even bother?"
That's what some folks are predicting for next year if we keep everything the same ( in the numerous Rudy threads ).
next year's predictions: yao gets injured. has to rest for rest of season on injured list and rockets finish number one in the lottery again and pick lebron james jr.
45-37 seems to be the measuring stick (our record two years ago). 43-39 this year. So, without Hakeem, we manage a worse record, with no major injuries, with more talent. Sigh... It's obvious we have athletic talent. But we don't play smart basketball. We chose to use "brute force" method rather than "outsmart" our opponents. So, next year? 49-33. 6th seed. A 6 win improvement. Decent, but not great.
what the hell does this mean? first, i agree with cmellon. why joke about an injury? second, if you're trying to be cutesy or funny, at least try to make your joke SOUND plausible. so you're telling me that within a span of a year lebron knocks up a lady, lebron jr. is born, and that child grows up so unbelievably fast that the rockets pick him up to play professional basketball? that is some very fast reproduction and child development if you ask me.
Rocketsmillemium, your post is pretty funny considering how things turned out with the suns You really laid into New Yorker about his suns prediction. oops.
Well I could not be any more wrong than I was. As someone following the team since 1984, I am surprised at how wrong I could have been. I have seen 80 Rockets games this year and I am still in disbelief, especially since we did not have any major injuries. Yes I was aggressive looking for 58 wins but not making the playoffs was never even considered. The wrongs that I did not consider were: Rudy T's coaching (overplaying Mobes and SF; limited offensive scheme; Ming should have averaged 18 pts per game; no running game, etc.) EG - the expected improvement did not happen Where I stand I will only be encouraged by coaching changes or coaching philosophy changes. The talent is there but I am not impressed with the coaching. Happy Off Season!
Do you remember this one? I actually bookmarked it to bring it up later in the year but I didn't have the heart to do it. http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47091&perpage=30&pagenumber=1
