you guys have a dynamic here I don't have. I'm not trying to do anything with you other than respond to your posts. you fault me because my beliefs are not your beliefs I'm not trying to win you over, defeat you, or do any of that. I'm just a guy with an opinion who isn't budged by badgering. Max, you and I will not agree on many things. You're a devout Catholic who believes in Christianity and all that entails. I'm like Glynch and Rocketman and DaDakota and all the other guys you think are the sons of sins. I'm way over here, and you're way over ------------------------here let's just agree to disagree, and agree that you won't change my mind and I won't change yours
Childish indeed. Early peoples did not have a rationial, scientific understanding of the natural world. Rain, floods, eathquakes, disease all happened because it was the will of god, and you deserved what you got. What other rationial explaniation could there be to them? I can not fault them for this. But life is basically survival, struggling and hardship. We evolved from it. It made us who we are. And it is through that suffering that we get to know "god". Without Choke City there would be no Clutch City!
When excactly did I offend you? I'm sorry I don't agree with you. Stop crying. Oh, and I don't think Buddha and Christ ever talked so you might want to tell that to the Jesus Seminar about things Christ didn't say. Buddhism has the right idea, it is just missing the key ingredient, Christ! Actually I don't believe this preceding statement. I believe in baptism by desire, which most of these Buddhists probably have. Peace.
I'd agree with the first paragraph, with major qualifications. As far as the second, yes life is hard, but is also freaking awesome. I'm enjoying it!
You might want to check out Thomas Merton if you never have. crap, this one too: http://www.hundredmountain.com/Pages/pageone_stuff/mertonpages_fall00/merton_fall00.html
An old man was walking up a mountain path, bent over with a large bundle of tiles slung over his back. But his eyes revealed him as a man who had awareness. A younger traveller asked him: "Old man. What is awareness?" The old man sat down his load, stood up straight and tall, and beamed. The younger man replied: "What comes after awareness?" The old man lifted his load of tiles and resumed his upward march.
We are currently experiencing a cultural/scientific revival in here. In the past few days I have seen renewed professions to credit several previously out of fashion ideas like eugenics, cultural predestination, and now physiognomy. No one is saying it out loud, but the BBS is attempting our own Post-Post-Modern Renaissance.
I had physiognomy, but I got a shot and it went away. YeeeeeeeeeeeeeHaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwww! we a gonna get us some culture now! I agree macbeth. of course, for me it would be
Perhaps you're just suffering from a case of bad humours in the blood. I heard they're doing great things with leeches now...
MR. MEOWGI, Father Merton sounds pretty dope. We have one of the best Cistercian Abbeys in the world across the street from my school, and two of my friends have just entered in to it. I gave it some thought too, but decided that was not my vocation, I think this guy really held the key to gaining a better world understanding of God and of love. Friendly Fan, I hope you don't think I was judging you just because I thought your take on abortion was wrong, if you check the BBS you know I'm not one to do that. However, I still think your views were wrong, and I think I have every right in the world to say that. MacB, can we also add religious revival? I think that is the thing I liked best about the little I read of Heidigger (yes he was a nazi but he was a good philosopher) He said basically, out of all the wrong that we see in this world, we often forget to look at what is right...
hey, I don't mind I was merely attempting to skewer you on the Lord's petard. there's no good answers on abortion, so I pick the one that makes the most sense. would it be better if every embryo had a promising future with a mommy and daddy and good home waiting? yes. but when that isn't going to happen, I see good coming from that child not being born now. I've known too many women who had abortions and who made the right decision, IMO.
Clearly an hysterical woman. Hysterical in the classical sense, as in suffering from emotional imbalance due to problems of the womb. Anyone got good old dunking tank to put her right?
Bring em on, I say. On a serious note, I agree about Heidigger ( then boozy bugger) as a philosopher, and I think he stands as an example of his idea.
