OMG. The pledge that came from the commission Constantine convened in 325 CE to come up with a party platform for his new state church. How appropriate that you would rely upon the same creed that warranted THE INQUISITION. In answer to your question, NO. No, I don't believe the creed.
But, since he neither knows what our views are nor has even sought to know, nor has he made any clear statement about his beliefs, this all becomes just so much hot air, and therefore nothing but a troll.
please tell me, and don't leave anything out. I'm serious. You guys are gonna be mad until you do, so please do. I suppose I can have these arguments one more time. You guys just cannot believe I could read the bible and come away with a totally different take that the standard approaches. even that is funny, because there is no standard approach in Christendom. The Church of Christers think everyone else is going to hell, half of the Christianity thinks the other half is going to hell. Me, I don't care if a guy is Mormon, or Baptist, or Catholic, or Jew, or Muslim, or Hindu, or atheist. If he seeks goodness more so than evil, if he fulfills his duties to his children, his family and his community, that is all I want and all I think God asks. I ask men to ignore dogma, to ignore religion, and take only the pearls from them.
Actually, I agree with Friendly Fan in that none of us, if anyone at all, could have a basis of discussion with him. Normally we could all agree on a single basis, the Bible, and be able to build upon that foundation. That's not the case with Friendly Fan. He believes that the Bible is corrupted, but chooses to believe that only choice words from Jesus are the only uncorrupted thing in the blasphemy of a bible. To be able to discuss beliefs seriously with him, you would have to know him (his life, his studies, his strongholds). Because he himself is the basis of his beliefs, what common ground could you seriously build upon unless he told you? He would have to lay out his entire belief system, with proofs of valid (and not just logical) interpretation. Because he is unwilling to do that and he may be the only one who believes the way he does (since his life and observations are his basis), we are probably better served to focus our quest for understanding in other directions. (Unless he deems that our personal growth hinges on him, too )
Just trying to understand this. Your saying that you "re-examined his words, which I assume you mean you re-read the Bible and did so without "prediposition" although I am confused how you came to the conlusion that the gospels are full of embelishments and tales? What did you compare them too to come to this conclusion. Not trying to be a jerk, just wondering how you came to this conclusion. I respect anyone`s rights of belief as long as they respect mine and I dont quite follow what you were saying.
I've discussed more of my beliefs in this thread than have any of you. let's hear what you guys believe resurrection? virgin birth? Jesus or hell? please
I believe that true Baptisim is found in Acts 2:38 I believe that the trinity is a man made entity and is not found in the Bible {the word trinity} I believe you must be born again to enter into Heaven I believe the Godhead is one, not three
Look I'm not trying be antisocial, but I see little point in trying to get you guys to see things my way. I got there because of a journey, not because of something someone told me sometime somewhere. It's a life's work, and it's mine. I don't really care to explain because I think there is no unique path to God. It can be found in Christianity or Islam or Judaism or nothing at all. you are inside a sphere and that sphere is labelled Christianity, and for you that sphere IS all that is spirituality. I am outside that sphere, seeing it as one of many. I challenge your beliefs in the hope that you might investigate the things I suggest and read for yourselves. The history of Christianity is fascinating, and it's more about which king ruled than anything the good book said.
thanks that would make you NOT a Catholic, therefore a protestant, probably not Episcopal or Anglican
All you have stated is that you disagree with our views, I'm Catholic, so there those are my views, I've been able to argue however succesful or unsuccesful with anybody who has attacked my posistions, not just said they though they were wrong.... so, if you want to make a logical argument against my beliefs, go ahead and do so, because the whole debate and discussion thing is turning in to you pruporting your views just as bombastically as you believe any of us do. Other than that, you just said you thought the creed was a party platform, yet gave no logical argument against the theological text that is there, despite what crooked members of the church did during the inquisition, you still haven't been able to refute those ideas in any logical argument. Until then you are like Nietzsche, devoid of reason and intent on arguing your point from sheer will. I suggest you learn Hebrew or Greek and read the Bible in those before you use the Jesus Seminar's Cliffs Notes into the text.... PEACE
I was simply trying to see your point of view although you dont really offer one. Thats cool...........peace
I thought my first point would have given me away, I am one of those crazy tongue talking Pentacostal`s
grizzled, This Friendly guy is an odd charcter, eh? For the record, people like you and MadMax are my favorite bbs people with whom to talk about religion - you have your convictions, but you are open to talk about anything and don't end up just getting argumentative. Sharing, not arguing.
I know them well gifts of the holy spirit speaking in tongues laying on of hands hey, you guys have a good time on Saturday night. I have Pentecostal family members.
