Everyone including the brothers in DC hate McNabb. His QB rating is horrible. He brings leadership qualities and big play potential. That's it. Other than that, he throws at feet. Cambell had more than his fair share of love in DC. McNabb got pulled because Shanny is a control freak who wanted to punish him for playing like ass. We all know those excuses were bs, at least in DC everyone knows that.
I stopped reading when I saw the name Vince Young. I guess Fisher decided to become a racist after Steve McNair retired?
Whitlock has cleaned his stuff up as of late, he used to write garbage like this. Now he's just mildly annoying.
I remember last year Jemele Hill wrote an article on how the NFL delivers harsher punishments to black players. I wonder how she feels with the way the NFL "dropped the hammer" on AJ for beating Innegan's ass.
I agree with author on many of the things said in the article. 1) McNabb is an average QB with so much media hype that it got him an $80 million extension at age 34. That's Tom Brady-Peyton Manning kind of money for a guy without the superbowl rings. 2) Vick is another case of over-hype. Two weeks ago he lights up a bad Redskin team and is proclaimed as a solid mvp candidate. Then on Sunday, he plays a real defense and seems lost in the pocket. What's the excuse? I'll tell you, Vick has been inconsistent throughout his career. Only reason he is still around is because of his enormously gifted body which is able to outrun most defenders. His scambling ability is his only adavantage. 3) Vince Young - You know what I'll take a pass on him cause I don't know where to begin. Clearly he should sit at home on sundays drinking to his glory days at Texas. 4) Jamarcus Russell - Guy is in street clothes still living it up with his piles of cash. So yeah the black QB idea hasn't worked out so well in the NFL. Want to know why? Well, race has nothing to do with this. Its the culture these guys grow up in. Obviously, they are far superior in term of raw athelticism that many of these guys never put in the amount of work required to study and learn all the nuances of the game. Then you also have all the enablers (Mack Brown I'm looking at you) who allow them to get whatever they want at the high school and collegiate level so that no one is willing to crush their bubble and let reality sink in.
Vick didn't play terribly in that game, and he's been a top 5 QB in this season as a whole. You take one game and say he sucks when it wasn't even that bad of a game. He's no P. Manning, but even Manning is having a relatively bad year. McNabb used to be awesome, but his QB rating from the 2nd half of last season was horrible...and the trend continued to this season. So what that he doesn't have rings? Also, his contract isn't nearly that good. The details have come out that the Skins can terminate with a $3mill buyout. I think it's unfair to draw a sweeping conclusion about black quarterbacks and the college environment. This is the NFL and every player should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis based on their career body of work and the factors that involved them specifically. You use Mack Brown and UT as your warrant, but exclude Vince Young from your examples and yet he was probably the only case that makes sense from your reasoning.
and the author of the article, forgot about Leftwich was benched when Big Ben returned from the suspension. Stupid article, why some people use the race card for everything?
