FYI the unvaccinated can spread the disease even to folks who are vulnerable even if the unvaccinated do not feel sick.

BTW my brother in law died about 10 days ago here in Houston due to complications from Covid. Granted he had cancer, but Covid finished him off when he was about to have a stem cell operation that was expected to put his cancer in remission.

The main culprit of the new surge is the delta variant.

While the vaccine reduces the chances that you fall sick, it likely doesnt stop you from spreading it. Thus the need for people to keep wearing masks and social distancing.

Corona viruses are mutation happy and vaccines are unlikely to be a perm solution, making the idea of mandating vaccines basically an effort in futility.

 

Except the vaccines mutate when they spread. While vaccines don't eliminate the spread, they do reduce the chance of spread. Thus the more vaccines, the less spread. The less spread the fewer variants.

 

It is true you cannot fully protect ignorant individuals from themselves. For instance the larger society had to overcome "libertarian" type resistance to enforce seat belts, and motor cycle helmets.

Typically these type of folks are either unconcerned or not aware of how the larger society loses when they wind up disabled or tie up medical resources.
