Sometimes open ended questions spark discussion better than specifying reasons for a position...We may have different reasons for wanting or not wanting Jon Barry

You folks say MacBeth makes speeches, but encourage posters to make them. Don't be a jackass because you have 11,000 posts...

My guess is we're the only lottery team that thinks Jon Barry is the answer to all our problems.

I am not worried about the SG position. The Rockets need to focus on the SF and PF positions.

Nobody's said anything like that, we're just being realistic. The Rockets probably aren't going to get Elton Brand or Jason Kidd. We can only afford a player at or around the mid-level exception. So, since we're going to keep in the nucleus in place, why not just fill in some weak spots (shooting, experience, power) with a player who we could realistically acquire. Jon Barry helps to fill at least two of these needs. I don't think anyone's suggested he would be anything more than a spark off the bench. I suppose you don't think the Rockets could use at least ONE backup guard who can hit an open shot?

The only answer to ALL of our problems is the improvement of our young players.

Both are pretty good 3 point shooters.

    Brent is a better passer/PG with a shot. :)
Jon seems to fit the SG role better.

I'd pick Brent over Jon. But both are good picks.

Jon knows how to hustle and work hard!

notice the difference in the minutes. If you look at the fewer minutes Jon gets his numbers are just as good, maybe even better.

True. But I love Brents size and passing.

If Brent had a "scorers" mentality, maybe he'd score more per minute. But he's not that type of player.

Yep. Both are soild players in their own right. It just comes down to what style they bring.

Brent could play the point and 2 guard. Jon could play the 2 and 3. Just depends on what JVG wants/needs.

I don't think people are saying he's the "answer to all our problems" or even anything remotely close to that. I think they're looking at it from the angle "who do you want to be the first guard off the bench, Moochie or Jon?". They're thinking it's an improvement over Mooch, then translating that into an improvement of the team.

If people think Jon's the answer to all our problems, well...

    DAMN!

Ohh yeah I almost forgot, which Barry. I personally would be happy with either over our current backup situation, but if I had to pick one it would be Brent.

I know. That's what I mean about "personal attacks."

Some can be a form of ridiclue (poking fun; which is what I do most of the time).

But SOME can be down right "personal insults."

    There's a difference.

You tell 'em David. That was just mean. Now let's just ignore it and get this thread back on track. Some of you guys almost saved the thread... don't ruin it. ;)

I'd love to have Jon Barry. Brent is not available, so it's a non-issue as to whether we want Brent or Jon. Jon would be a fantastic addition! He would make the Rockets better!

Barry is who I would go after and I would also make a run at Stromile Swift. Toughness and outside shooting...we get both with these two players, and they both seem to be cheap...or at least reasonable.

DrOfDick deserves the ridicule! Put him in a stockade! Steralize him so he doesn't breed! :D

Y'all come on now...I know Dr. of Dunk is respectable BBS poster...I've been reading his banter for four years now. But he popped off a little hard on the newbie that started his thread, and I thought he needed to be reminded of how stupid people thought he was when he first started posting.

Some folks on this board think 11,000 posts means more than it really does...

I think DoD scared the chit out of Da Wink (thread starter). Da Wink is no where to be found and probably will need psychotherapy.

Good thing HeyP didn't stomp on his head or Da Wink might have gotten permanent brain damage!

    :D :D :D

    It's all good!

Sorry to pile on but 1) Brent is not a FA and if he was he would cost a whole lot more and 2) since when is looking to add a 7th-8th man to provide some bench shooting and clutch play considered "the answer to all our problems." Baby steps Freak, baby steps.

BTW Though either would make a good addition (of course Jon is more plausible), Jon has more of his mother's talent and father's balls while Brent has more of his father's talent and mother's balls.
