What makes you guys think Yao would be able to get the ball. Sure, we could force it in there and due to 4 defenders being around Yao likely turn the ball over. Yao pops out high? Two defenders go with him. Good luck. Lob it?? Two defenders outjump Yao because he can't go and get it. Seattle was NOT going to let Yao get the ball. EOD.
I GIVE RICK A LOT OF CREDIT FOR MAKING THIS TEAM A LOT WORSE THAN IT WAS LAST SEASON. THANKS FOR NOTHING
McGrady missed nine games last year on top of Yao missing 34 games compared to none so far this year.
What was our record without Tmac under JVG versus our record without TMac under Adelman? I think the team is improving....and is not so severly reliant on one particular player.... Overall this will make the team better....I am satisfied and see significant progress being made. DD
So if Yao goes out for 34 games between now and the end of the year we will end up with 52 wins and the 4th seed or better?
Is that what you strive for, 52 wins and 4th seed? I want more, a true championship contender, and am willing to take a couple of lumps to get there, I believe by the end of this year the Rockets will be much better and a threat in the playoffs. DD
Home court advantage is looking very remote at this point. Do you like our chances of winning a series against San Antonio, Phoenix, Dallas, or New Orleans without home court advantage? I sure don't. I think the Rockets may be a much improved team between now and the end of the year if things fall into place, but I still don't like our odds of advancing. And unlike others, I'm not going to pile the blame on the coach. I didn't do it last year with JVG, and for the same reasons I won't do it this year. The coaching has been very good for this team over the years; it's about the players.
No, I'm saying the only way you can compare the coaches performances up to this point is by what they have done in the regular season with similar rosters. Considering Yao was out almost half the year with injuries last season and the improved roster depth this year it is hard to consider this year as anything but disappointing to this point. Hopefully that will change by the time the playoffs start, but most of us have had that false hope for over 10 years now.
Are you for real? Seriously, are you really Rick Adelman? How can you give a coach an A when he had what was believed to be a major contender and they are 23-19 and as of right now not in the playoffs? More importantly, you say his team must love and respect him for grinding out a win when down 13 with 7 min to go? Does that mean they hated him a few games ago when they blew the 16 point lead vs. the 76ers. Or was it the 76ers just love and respect their coach more then the Rox. That wouldnt make sense cuz the 76ers are currently losing to the Knicks and we know his team doesnt respect Isiah?
I do agree that it always comes down to the players, but I also believe a certain style of coaching gets more out of players. As for advancing, ask at the end of the year, if we are on a roll, then yes, I could see us beating anyone in a 7 game series. We have already beaten San Antonio and Phoenix......and we are still not playing great.... Scola and Landry getting more comfortable, Brooks finding his rythmn again....he has sort of lost it because he is not having the ball in his hands as much lately...Rick needs to give him the ball and tell him to go to work. That all happens and Tmac gets healthy...then I will take my chances. DD
The coaches matter even in this, the players' league. If the Rox played the Blazers in NBALive it wou;dn't be close. MacMillan, however, edges his squad past Adelman's. No Arenas? No problem. They have Jordan, Eddie, that is. November 1st the LaLaLakers were headed to LottoLand - now they are a June 'contender'. Kobe? Kobe and Phil and a bunch of (according to ptreseason experts) yo-yos. Coaching matters. Sac holding it together? Pretty Boy Reg - gie. Nets' bigbigbig three? Lawrence Frank-ly, they stink. Coaching does matter. Swap Adelman's sterling job to Duh Donald, Sterling that is, for Dunleavy (whom I generally disdain, but - for a year or so he'll get some mileage out of our guys).
Coaching is overrated just look at the Celtics coach before the big 3 and now after. Larry Brown coaching the New York Knicks. The White Soxs winning the world series with a rookie manager. It's overrated!
Doc Rivers got a lot smarter with the additions/subtractions. However, there are coaches who could have blown up that team in October, or since. But, yes, KG adds IQ points to his coaches (like, who, Flip?). Larry Brown and the Knicks was a knucklehead year followed by more knucklehead year+. White Sox? They play...baseball? NBA coaching: it's UNDERrated!
Adleman has done nothing to receive any sort of credit for anything at the given moment...This will likely remain the situation for some time to come
