Hard pill to swallow, but I have to agree. If Yao played last season, we'd be front runners in many of these free agents' radars. Unfortunately, with his injuries over the past five years, we are a long shot from signing just one.

Just another day in the life of a Rockets' fan though...

Well duh. Would you want to hitch your wagon to a dude that got hurt in the last 3 years, and just missed a whole season, and had his foot changed with the hopes of playing more? Just imagine how much folks would want to be here if yao didn't miss last season.

OP - you are correct, but posting an unpopular opinion, no matter how truthful is gonna bring out the stone throwers.

42 wins without Yao. Yao has more backups now and Bosh, also going to play less, and no Chinese national team to answer to this year. Alot to look at differently. Plus?? The Chinese following with its money and celebrity is a draw Yao brings. If he does stay healthy with this stacked lineup to help him to play less minutes? Then Bosh or any free agent wins out big for a deep playoff run and international exposure on a global scale. Huge potential with Yao too.

Yao is an expiring contract. I don't think he will scare away potential free agents.

see, ppl say that since yao didnt play with china, he'll be all good. reality check: the damage is already done. he can only get worse, healthwise, from here on out.

second, this isnt a new idea, but it is a overlooked topic or at least no one wants to ruin their day with the truth so they dont like to think about it. all i hear on the boards is "OMG brooks/martin/ariza/bosh/yao! we gon win teh championshipz" .... sorry, yao's injury affects that, whether you like to admit it or not.

if lopez/harris was always injured in new jersey, do you think that team would be as attractive?

if rose/noah was always injured in chicago, do you think that team would be as attractive?

so stop flaming the dude for bringing up a topic that overzealous and delusional fans need to hear.

No I dont think damage is done yet. He is only on the books for one more year. Expiring contract of Yao? Whats that worth? Maybe Carmello Anthony to pair wioth Bosh? Maybe signing someone if we dont reup him? Its only the begining. Some people are just negative and too shortsighted to convince themselves and players who want to come here. Fans gotta have a better understanding to make the proper pitches to these guys so that they want to come here too.

Rockets needs to put Yao on the market. Not selling him but just showing the world his worth since he was the most sought player on the Rockets.

Teams would love to take a shot at Yao but if he had 2 more years on his deal you would not get pennies on the dollar.

All we can do is hope he gets healthy and proves us all wrong.

I think the correct statement should be that Yao and chinese market will not help the rockets to land big name players anymore.

Tmac came here because of Yao!

Yao is an expiring contract. If houston itself is attractive to free agents. Yao with expiring contract won't scare away potential free agents.

    This is absolutely true.

I laugh every time someone suggests Yao can attract any of the big names.

Frankly, I'm indifferent. I like Bosh and he's obviously upgrade at the 4, but if we don't get Bosh or anyone else I won't be upset.

As long as we resign Scola and *fingers crossed* Yao stays healthy, we'll still be good enough to contend.
