Yes, let me spend the 10 bucks on a crappy seat (food/drinks/transportation not included) when I can just sit back in my recliner in the warmth of my home and watch. And we're not even talking about anything close to a good team. We're talking about a mediocre team playing ugly ball that loses for no apparent purpose except for losing and pisses everybody off. That's certainly a great strategy to attract fans. For those that don't understand:

    BOTTOM LINE: WINNING ATTRACTS FANS.

to continue your equation.... IN ANY CITY IN THE NBA....lets lock this one down as we have gone full circle...we win and all gets better, we lose and do not make the playoffs for another 4 years then attendance will remain as is...not to say people do not support the team, because showing up is not the only support with TV and Cable...

    you're right man.

I know that winning cures all.

the wizards man... the wizards had 16,000...

consistently where we go has a great crowd because our fans are somewhat decentralized.... and the interest in our team a little more universal.

I would just like to see more of that at home.

get those tops off of the clutch girls... that's what I say...

(if any clutch girls are reading this and take offense to these comments, I would be happy to discuss my bad taste over a hot bath and a couple of cool drinks...)

just last week I flew into Houston to visit my uncle and friends, and watched two Rockets games (vs Jazz and Warriors)

Even though we got free parking for the first game 1 block away from TC and for the second game, we got really lucky and got free $265 club seats from a really nice guy despite buying $10 tickets, I would have to complain that the fans were just too quiet in the stadium

I tried my best to yell as hard as I could, but it was really disappointing to see that hardly anyone else was trying to be loud

I think this isn't just because of the way the team is winning.... it has something to do with the socioeconomic status of people attending games

Rockets should definitely try to lower the prices of seats in the lower bowl behind the baskets at least to attract loud, young fans... that should be a start to generating some real game atmosphere in the building

I didn't have time to read ALL the posts on this matter,

    but..

I would like to say that ...

    1) I agree with whoever said it before (sorry, can't remember who) that Houston fans are just not FANATICAL about it. Just because we aren't wearing fake red afro's and going "ape****" doesn't mean we don't support our team, or that we aren't actually "fans."

    2) The rockets are in the middle of trying to get a BIG monkey off of their back, which is that they have OBVIOUSLY not performed TO THEIR POTENTIAL for several years now. This is a recipe for fan indifference if there ever was one.... how can you expect the FANS to care BEFORE THE PLAYERS SEEM TO CARE. These guys should have been much better than they have finished for years now, and as a season ticket holder, I can tell you first hand that watching them CONTINUALLY underperform and not achieve their potential is enough to quiet down anyone.

I think if they would just show that they really are playing to their potential, they would get a better reception from the fans, win or lose, but that's not to say that the relaxed Houston temperament (which I tend to like in general) will change any time soon... just that maybe if these guys would do what we ALL know they are capable of, then there would be better support of the team.

I would also add that Parking has added a degree of difficulty in terms of finances and logistics to attending a game, and I think that also has not helped. I also don't like the "split councourses" between upper and lower prom... you used to be able to go out at half time and run into anyone who was at the game... now it seems it's divided by class. Doesn't matter, but definitely more sterile. And anotehr thing, what's with the unfinished floors upstairs? Plain concrete? THIS is our beautiful new arena? It seems some of the finishing touches fell by the wayside to me, though as a whole the arena is very nice.

The new announcer is not as good as the last one, and I didn't care for the last one.... what else.... hmmmm The new "Hustle Board" stats are "ticker" style, where they flash certain stats at certain times, but the list of stats is no longer permanently displayed in the corners. The JumboTron looks nice, but it is mostly AD space, and during the game, they only show an angle of the game that is farther than looking at the court itself, unless it's a replay.

Seems mostly like either unfinished business or just details that may iron out soon, but I think that the new place is taking more "getting adjusted to" than fans or Les would like to think. Most of these things are minor, and fixable, and I think this is the year that we realize our potential on a consistent basis... so buckle your seatbelts and bet your BandWagonner Armor on, because this season should be a better ride than any we've seen in years... but I've said that for three seasons now... and have been varying degrees of ... well.... wrong.

Bottomline, this is a football town. We will go nuts at a Texans game even though they were 5-11. And as long as they are competitive (they were in every game except the KC game), the support will be there. It shows alot when we supported a team that had Bud Adams as a owner and Jerry Glanville as a coach. Only true fans would root for a team that involved those 2 characters. (Yeah, I know that was a long time ago but my point is football fans in H-town are more dedicated then the Bball fans.)

Someone mentioned we are a more laid back or subdued type of fans; these are perfect baseball fans. Maybe that's why the Astros get more of a following then the Rox. That and they seem to get that free agent or trade to buzz up the fans (Pettite, Clemens, Jeff Kent, Randy Johnson, Drabek, Swindell, etc.)

In this town, basketball is clearly running third in the big 3. If the Rox don't improve and get the fans into it, the Comets or the Aeros can sneak up and overtake them (half-joking). BTW, NHL hockey will suffer the same apathy the Rox are getting if it comes this way. Sure the "me too" crowd will go to the NHL games at first but after the novelty wears off the die hard hockey fans will be left and they won't be much.

Also, the brains behind the big 3 are indicative as to where the teams are heading. Charlie Casserly will shape the Texans the way he shaped the Redskins and is known as one of the better football guys in the NFL. Gerry Hunsicker has also been praised for getting the most out of the Astros with a tight salary cap. And the farm system is one of the best under his helm as the Astro GM. On the other hand, I have my reservation about Carroll Dawson. Sure he drafted Cuttino, but there have been alot of blunders under his helm. The Eddie Griffin fiasco is a black stain on the resume. I really don't think the players they have is the right type of players for JVG. Slowly but surely JVG is getting the players he wants even though CD has final say on personnel. All this means is that the Rox have a long ways to go to get the subdued Rox fans out of their recliners or sports bars or wherever they are hanging out watching the Rox instead of packing TC. Very sad when the Rox gave us our only major championships (no, the Comets don't count).

BTW, I've been to TC and that place is a mauseleum (sp). And it looks unfinished inside. I still saw construction writings on one of the columns.
