Mclady averaged 20.84 shot per game in the regular season last year ( 71 games 1480 shot attempts)

the big stiff averaged 18.61 shots per game in the regular season last year (48 games 819 shot attempts)

in the playoffs Mclady averaged 22.85 shots per game ( 7 games 160 shot attempts) the increase in shot attempts allowing for the big stiff... who was coming back from a injury and playing like a girl 17.85 shots per game (7 games 125 shot attempts)

I dont have the game logs from last season anymore...

but this season... of the 29 games Mclady played in.... he shot... under .450

in 15 of those 29 games... 11 of those games he shot under 35%

in those 11 games he STILL took 187 shot attempts averaging 17 shots per game

I agree 100%. Even if Yao and T-Mac play big the Rockets are going nowhere without the rest of the guys. Earlier in the season Yao and T-Mac were #2 on the list for biggest point contribution from two players, right behind AI and Carmelo and the team sucked.

That's why T-Mac is dangerous. If he dominates the ball too much he'll suffocate the offense. He needs to play like the last quarter against the Blazers, where he ran the offense but the rookies ended up scoring the last 12 points of the game.

i agree, somewhat, but at the same time i believe people around here REALLY overrate our role players. i dont think they are good enough to be consistently good in the playoffs, under playoff pressure, when the opposing team really gets to concentrate on stopping a team from doing what they like to do.

remember how well luther shot the ball in the regular season last year? yet he gave us NOTHING in the playoffs. its the playoffs where the holes in your team are truly exposed. i believe we are good enough to make the playoffs but to advance, its definitely not all about what t-mac can do. rafer can't shoot 40% on floaters and layups. we must shoot the 3 ball at at least a 40% clip to keep the floor spread.

i know many of you believe our role players are good enough, but im not so sure. we seem to be pretty dependent on rookies right now, and if we should make the playoffs, i dont know how much i like the idea of that.

I really think Tracy's future (both as a Rocket and as a NBA player) is hinging on how well he does in the playoffs. If he flakes out, it's going to be extremely difficult for the organization to keep him.

I don't know how to give you five-star, but if I could, I would give without any hesitation.
---"I do not think we play better without Tmac even at the current way plays. I just beleive he can get this team a lot better when he truely fits in the system. He is so talented."
Very nice input, maybe the same thing for Yao, this year is the best chance , even the only chance in Yao and TMAC's career. It's stupid to reserve anything.
We need TMAC. In every 4th Q, we need TMAC to secure a win so badly, see his genius passes in 4th Q vs Spurs, that's the difference between star and super star.

It maybe hard for a guy like Tmac with so much talent and so much individual success to change the way he plays for so many seasons. I am not saying he should yield to Yao and become a role player, not at all. I want both of them doing what they can do best within the system to help the team the most. They can both be the central parts of the offense in different ways, different moments. But at any moment they need to find the best way. And I beleive they can find it.

Tmac himself should realize this is his best shot for his career team success. "

    Yes,indeed.

I am concerned about this too. Let's just hope for the better.

I was thinking the same thing, on condition he is physically fine the rest of the season.
But is must not be "move side and watch". He must still aggressively gets involved, realizing he is contribution in all aspects are indispensible for the team's success. He is still "the main guy" in some sense.
I was mainly talking about mental/psychical preparation/readiness, assuming he has recovered from the injury.
    I hear you.
True. But this is what we have now,and MB seems to be out of the question. :(

Better yet, Tmac can turn this team into an automachine with everyone taking turn being gun and bullet :D

I would completely agree about supporting cast just a month ago. Now, even I still would dream to get upgrade on all the other three positions, I start to accept their performance with this system and I think with Tmac fully engaged, we do have a legimate chance to play against any team.

Well, Yao can really do that much. The "X" factor is Tmac at this moment(The by far the biggest "X" factor).

How Tmac's play has more impact than Yao's on other player's performance. It is probably more important for Tmac to make other play better than just he himself play better. This why I said it is hard for him to make the change.

I was very reluctant to go into detail like this for fear of misunderstanding. This is part of the change I was implying.
Well, that is why Tmac is so vital here. A team ball with talented "commander" can make up some deficiency of the role players just like nash(not necessary at PG position).

I don't think Tmac needs to change his style of play instead I think the roles need to change theirs. The rookies aren't mentally tough enough to take shots and tend to defer to him. The Roxs need a veteran point guard. When the Lakers brought back Derek Fisher, Kobe started looking a lot better.

DD, u surprise me sometimes. You are pretty knowledgable about hoops, but sometimes u don't make sense. U think Robinson moved over or was Duncan so good that he had no choice? If Yao dominates on a more consistent basis, then I'm sure Tracy will have no problem being a facilitator. To say robinsons moved over by his own will isn't even close to being accurate.

Back to the op, I think its up to Yao and Tracy. Last I checked, yao was on both those teams that went out in the 1st rd. People like to talk about monkey on the back, but its really on both of the stars. If Yao plays like he did the other night 2 out 3 games, the rox can roll. When Yao wants to be just ok, the rox have some problems. Lets face it, their are way more good wing players than centers in this league. On a nightly basis, yao should dwarf his conterpart. I'm not just talking about scoring either.

I still think a Jaric would be good for this team. He's a guy u can play a lot of combinations with.

    Thank you for the encouragement.
While this team may not be as good as he had hoped for, it probably his best shot. If he indeed gets traded, the future team is likely to be worse and he gets older too.
We can not get a better PG at this point without giving up something big. And Tmac is the only one can truly make this team play better team ball. And that is the only hope at this point.

On a side note, I think fans tend to be more picky with their own players because they pay more attention to their play, not just the highlights, and they have higher expectation than actually is on their team. Our supporting squad may not be top notch, but they have been playing fine with the team ball IMO.

Why does everyone think its this yr or bust? Has anyone ever thought about riding yao and tracy out for his yr plus 2 more and set themselves up for lebron. Doesn't that make more sense than trading for a good player and being saddled with a contract.and miss out on lebron.

Think if the rox just keep building this team with Yao and tracy adding good pieces and not taking any contracts past 09-10. Yao will be 30 and mac 31. You go after lebron and resign tracy if he's still able as the 3rd wheel discount rate along with ming bing the 2nd option behind lebron. Doesn't that make more sense?

We have too many rookies and not enough veterans. Rookies tend to play well mostly at home. Im not too concern about the regular season but without a big time trade I don't see the Roxs doing much in the playoffs(assuming they do make it). Which is ultimately the goal isnt it? Get pass the first round/championship.

I would think show up means standing on the floor.

Yes, we need ROF (Rox-only-fans) who would unconditionally support this team as long as the players have given their best in each and every game. It takes 12 players to win it all for the championship!

First off, you are so witty with the mclady and big stiff comments. just hilarious.

second, your regular season stats are flawed. you cannot use the games that Yao sat out when averaging Tmac's shots per game. Of course he shoots more when Yao is out

I can't watch people talk about tracy like this anymore. Its ridiculous. Do you guys watch any other teams play. T-mac is the most unselfish wing player in the game. He draws defenders and finds open teamates, thats what guards do.
Yao has been the focal point of the offense for years and still is when tmac plays. Centers can't handle the ball so it falls upon the best perimeter player, tmac.
    case closed.
