Sorry...No, I didn't mean to ignore you...I just thought that the point had been addressed with a combination of Khan's post, and my response to another poster re: the letter vs. spirit of the sig. IF you feel that those don't adress your points, let me know, and I'll respond further.

For the record, I'm not a big fan of PC either. I have been called anti-American enough for making unpopular statements in here to feel it personally as well as philosophically.

By the way, b****ing about my sig will only make me keep it longer and find ways to be more offensive, I am about to go Charles Barkley on this BBS.

    Da Da -

If you REALLY want to derail an thread, you drop in a Simpsons reference. Works everytime. I must admit I did it to see what happens on one of rimmy's jobs and we went from cerebral to cartoons in about 15 sec. ;).

the "tutu" ref. is pretty neat, though. Sigs are kind of like tutus for posts. ;).

Codel, Thanks. My respect for you has gone up.

Even I have been known to make posts or take positions that I later realized was incorrect. Can't remember any at the moment.

Wait!!! Once I took the position that I had made a mistake one time, but I was wrong I didn't. :)

codell: Just wanted to echo MacBeth's original response re: your sig. It had mildly rankled me in the past as well, but as I knew neither you nor Heretic meant offense by it I never mentioned it. Once it was raised it bugged me more. I know you're a good guy though and it never changed my opinion on that.

DaDakota: Anything that gets that weepy, flag sucking Powell quote out of your sig is super fine by me.

Gone up? Never realized you had a low level of respect for me to begin with (not that I really care ;) ).

I never said I was removing my sig because I felt I was incorrect or because I made a mistake.

I removed it so that all of us can go back to starting Larry Brown threads in the GARM and because, well, I am just a nice guy like that.

"I grew up in SCentral Texas nearly an equal distance to Dallas or Houston and I made a historic blunder...All my friends became Cowboy fans and grew up happy and liberal. I became an Oiler fan and grew up embittered and conservative."
The above is a joke..I never considered being a Oiler fan was a blunder..I luved the Blue. But ..all old time oiler fans know what Im saying.
    We understand.

    Chruchill said it best.

"If you're not a liberal at the age of 20 you have no heart, if you're not a conservative at the age of 30, you have no brain."

A bunch of scarecrows running amok on this BBS.

    I take it bacK.

If the board agrees it is not offensive I am thinking about having the following signature. I find it offensive, but I guess I am just nuttily politically correct and I would like to reform.

"Jews generally speaking like Peace like most humans. Some Jews only want peace after they have forcefully deported several million Palestianians from lands they have occupied for centuries."

This is true so I trust no one finds it offensive except for those pathetic politically correct types.

I thought the offensive part was about the relationship between Americans and good old trucks.

The Codell signature flap seems to be resolved (if you ignore DD putting it in type so small I have a hard time reading it), and I managed to stay out of it (which wasn't on purpose... just can't get into everything... most of the time), but I have to disagree about this quote. Sorry, pgabriel.

The Japanese commited suicide wholesale in WW2 and killed and wounded thousands while doing it. And I'm not even going to get into suicide being an ancient part of their culture, and considered an honorable act given the proper circumstances.

Just thought I would point that out.

No doubt it has been done in the past by different groups. But we are talking about today. Would it make sense to criticize the Japanese for suicide bombing? No, they've already stopped it.

Also the Japanese were attacking soldiers not innocent women and children.

Glynch, you sig doesn't offend me..have at it.

    MacBeth,

I think MadMax meant that the Reformation took away the absolute power of the Pope, which was what started the Crusade as you mentioned. The absolutization of a religious leader has been one of the most dangerous things in human history. The terrorist problem is akin to the same.

As for the Thirty Year War, first, the Catholics started it. :p And, second, as I understand it, it was only religious at the very beginning, sorta like the Irish thing.
