I know they can't combine the TE or the MLE and make it offer into a single player. But could pacers be using sign, trade, or whatever the method and land al harrington, then use our TE for another cheaper player and give up another one in al trade? in the end it all add up the same way.
The difference is that Jones is a lot thicker at 220 lbs and can defend a lot of guys that Luther can't. Jones is built kind of like Wesley in that respect. Though if we do sign V-Span and Lucas our backcourt will be crowded once again with a bunch of undersized guards. And while I'd like another wing defender off the bench, I'm not sure if Jones is the right fit.
I agree, Jones is stronger, longer arms and has more raw athleticism. I am more comfortable with him guarding a bigger player than Head. I also agree with rserina to a degree, Head's season is pretty comparable (though Jones season 2 seasons ago was better than Head's last year), but that was just one season and would not assume he can do better as opponents starting looking more for weaknesses over time. In short I'd think Jones would give us another solid option, give us more trade felxibility, and would be the most "proven" NBA guard among what the Rockets have at the moment (Head only has one year under his belt, Alston and Synder are more erratic). I'd really like to have Fred Jones on the Rockets, and the remaining MLE or the TE plus a 2nd might get it done.
Harrington is apparently a Pacer and none of the guards/swingmen went to Atl (they solely used their TE). Apparently they also used a #1 pick for the deal, so maybe they want to acquire another. Let's strike quickly and get one of their excess swingmen/guards. Though I like Jones (using the TE plus a future pick?) or S Jack (player trade) I think any of their rotation players from last year would help our backcourt and I would have interest.
The Pacers are dumping salary, as you saw from the NBA Dish thread about them dumping Johnson for Armstrong. Looks like they really are a good candidate for a deal... anything they can do to slice salary.
