I don't surf @ work technically. I surf during lunch in my car (which is my office) on my work issued laptop inthat I have to turn in every 6 months for upgrades and audits.

I don't have to worry about anyone looking over my shoulder. I have to worry about my company auditing my laptop and taking a peek @ bbs.clutchfans.net and seeing folks talking about poo and masturbation.

I think we do go too far at times. And Clutch has done so much for us that I hate to disrupt his vision of what the board should be like.

However, there are way too many members for us to make everyones individual work IT guys happy and still have ANY content at all.

I dunno what the solution is.....

You have to be kidding me.

No offense, but this is a pretty arrogant statement don't you think?

I'm not sure I understand....You think there is a way to have content that none of our members various and sundry IT guys would object to? Even if it was purely basketball and movie reviews of Disney Classics?

I mean I have never had my internet monitored at work...but its my understanding some of these guys are pretty draconian. Or am I misinformed?

Sorry...not trying to be a douchebag. If there are some sort of happy medium standards I am certainly o.k with it. If I want to look at pictures of scantily clad women there are better places to go, and I don't have any particular obsession with bathroom habits etc.

There is a VERY distinct difference between talking about basketball, food, movies, consumer products, health problems, boyfriend/girlfriend problems, legal problems and poop, masturbation.

There really isn't much of a gray area there and the hangout was extremely popular long before the latter became prevalent in this forum.

I doubt anyone is going to get fired because they are talking about the Rockets winning streak or a movie that just opened. And if they do, its probably because they aren't supposed to be viewing anything other than work related sites.

I am sure some IT guys are more understanding than others. But is it fair to those who have their content monitored and judged more strictly than others? I think it would be unfair for anyone to have to stop viewing this site during work hours because they may get in trouble because of the content.

Why defines a happy medium? If this site only had the GARM, most of us would be happy because that is what this site is about.

The rest of the available forums is a privilege that Clutch extends to us. We should respect that. I personally don't think the ability to talk about poop and sex is a happy medium. There is plenty of other stuff to talk about that keeps everyone safe from getting in trouble with their employer (and SO for that matter).

Count me among those who would not be a regular visitor if all we had was the GARM. Because while there are gems in there, there is a lot of wading through to get to it.

I think some common sense guidelines are o.k. certainly. And Clutch and the mods have done a good job of policing the forum.

And I think its a good idea to keep things to where an average boss or girlfriend would be unlikely to be upset.

But I do think that it's not very realistic to think umpteen bajillion members are gonna self-police and make sure there is nothing on here that some boss, or wife would find objectionable. Maybe that is arrogance on my part...but I'll go with it.

You must work for a very openminded organization to have that philosphy and POV.

Let's save the poop and masturbation threads, but let's all make a concentrated effort to use more metaphors when referencing them.

I tried to cover it up by bumping to the next page, but I think some kids might go back to look at it just out of curiosity on what they missed. :(
