he reminds me of AI, except he cant break down defenders if he could he is a sg in a pg's body. right now we need that scoring punch but eventually he will have to settle being a pg
LOL, Brooks has started 20 games in his second year in the NBA and people are already riding his ass. Unbelievable. Alot of people want immediate gratification at one of the toughest positions in basketball. When T-Mac went down the chances of a possible championship slipped away, that was the time to make the move and develop Brooks. Take the pain now for the big payoff later.
Nobody wants to trade AB for a bag of chips. People are arguing whether Lowry, as a young talented POINT GUARD, recognized by the GM, coach, and almost everyone on this board, COULD suit better with Yao Ming, and whether he should get more minutes or even to close the game or start the game. Is that an insult to AB or supporters of AB? I thought everyone is saying this is Yao's team now, but you can't even discuss which young inexperienced PG in Rockets uniform suits him better on the court? It's been 7 years, everyone says we are building around Yao, the funny thing is, I don't remember that Yao has ever got a 40%+ 3 pointer shooter playing along him for 25+ minutes, say for 20 games straight. How's that building around your big man? It's OK that Yao had to defer to SF or Cat when he was a rockie; it's also ok Yao had to defer to Tmac one of the best wingmen in the league; but now Yao also has to defer to AB, as you said, a second year AB, who has POTENTIAL? Because AB DESERVES PRECIOUS GAME TIME TO DEVELOP, while Yao Ming the so-called franchise player running back and forth in vain to hope he might get the ball? I thought we were talking about what kind of PG we want on this Rockets team, what kind of PG suits the Yao Ming lineup better, therefore the discussion who suits better now. We were not talking about whether AB has some talent or whether he can develop a deadly shooting later in his career, right? I thought we were still fighting for playoff seedings, so how to maximize our efficient scorers like Yao Ming and Scola is more important than developing a young late first round talent, no? It's interesting that the same camp advocating developing AB at all cost, were advocating how Rockets should not give Yao a max deal. Are you guys mailing in the season? As a Rockets fan, I am not, and I am pretty sure that most of the Rockets players are not giving up on the season yet. Please stop the comparison with Parker (final MVP), Nash (2 times MVP), and Sam (a proven winner). I still remember the same group of posters were livid and acted super insulted while Yao was talked in the same breath with Dream. The number one pick, max player, all star Center in the same Houston Rockets team, is not allowed to be compared to the Houston legend Dream. But a late first round pick short PG, just walked out of a 0 assist loss, played with Yao and Scola, can be comfortably compared with 2 of the best PGs in today's game. I can only shake my head.
this is a sig-worthy post. very well written and very well reasoned. enjoyed reading it. be interesting to see how others may respond (or not?).
Excellent point, dude has started a total of 20 games, please check all of the stats of so called superstar point guards at 20 games. Also, if more players besides Yao would convert on their shots, his assists would go up. Plus we walk the ball up every possession. I bet we have the least amount of layups/dunks in the league.
You can compare them at anytime, but let's compare them at the same amount of games in their career (2nd year 20 games started - go get the numbers). I do agree that 0 assists for a PG is atrocious, however, I have believe his numbers will improve. We walk the ball up the court everytime, very few layups/dunks (we have the least athletic team in the West), and movement on offense have others feeding Yao/Scola in the post. Steve Nash was traded or moved on 2 times in his career. Parker played with a tremendously better lineup than AB and Sam played with Dream, Drexler, and Horry. You brought up Yao with 7 years of experience then lets go ahead and compare him to DREAM at 7 years. No match and don't go even bring up the stats.
In the games after Brooks became the starter, the strategy seemed to be to let Yao come up the court at his own speed while Brooks and the other 3 starters push the ball up and attack. If there's nothing, they set up Yao in the low post for the offense. It was interesting that they didn't do this in the Spurs game. Brooks did a lot of walking up with the ball and then passing it around the perimeter. I'm not sure if it was by design (Adelman wanted to practice the half-court set or thought it was the best way to beat the Spurs) or due to fatigue or what, but it was a noticeable change.
I think part of the reason was because of the mental pressure put on us by the Spurs. Physical fatigue was also a big factor. I do think AB felt that was the best thing to do in that situation as well.
Not sure how much of it was strictly Brooks's decision. I think Adelman would've told him to push the tempo if that's what he wanted. But yeah, I think fatigue was a big factor in this game. And I forgot to add that Tony Parker was defending Brooks pretty tightly. Anyway, it will be interesting what adjustments are made when the two teams meet again next week. It's a road game, but the Rockets shoujld be fresher.
Use the "search" functionality, and dig out old post when Yao was here first, second, and third year. Posters brought up the comparison, but the same posters shot down them with the same whining and insulted pose. Go and see for yourself. I was merely pointing out the hypocrisy. BTW, I don't see you answer the question whether Lowry who's constantly looking for Yao in his limited minutes and plays much better defense, or AB who's looking for his own shots tirelessly can't play any defense, fits Yao Ming better right now. If AB fits better, why? If Lowry fits better, why AB should start? Because we are mailing in the season, and every player including the max player Yao Ming should focus on developing the next Parker - Brooks?
Aaron Brooks is our starting point guard. Other then some bad shot selection at the close of the game, he showed nothing in the last game to prove otherwise. While he wasn't perfect, he did a good job for the most part when confronting against the Spurs' elite defense and I saw him cover Tony Parker pretty well except when the Spurs had someone provide Parker a screen in which he could then penetrate.
If 0 assist in 35 minutes as a starting PG is showing he did nothing wrong besides bad shot selection at the end, then Rox is bound to fail again and again.
We know he's a sohpmore, we know he needs time to learn, we also know the best place for him to learn now is come off bench. Lowry, the younger of two, deserves more development on the court than Brooks.
