That was a passionate trip down memory lane. Its OK to be a fan. As fans we get tied up in our own "research" and what WE seem to value more than others. Not going to beat a dead horse with hindsight, but I forgot how high I was on Lawrence whoops LOL! edit: DOUBLE WHOOPS on my Anti Mahomes vibe!
Yeah, everyone was wrong on Wilson. But there’s no denying the physical traits. The entire “elite” class has fell on its face. Fields is a great runner, he might be the only one that can be serviceable. I said as much. Im not too proud to admit I was wrong on Wilson, are you too proud to admit you have no idea what you’re talking about when it comes to college football?
More I watch of Williams the more Im starting to see a Mahomes Lite. Had a few boneheaded plays here in this clip, but the ability to evade the rush and deliver lasers all over the field is impressive. I might have Caleb slightly ahead of Maye right now.
What I said about Wilson isn’t wrong, he has the tools. He’s fell on his face, just like Lawrence, Fields and Mac. Im good with Williams or Maye, and being wrong on one player isn’t the same as being wrong all the time. My assessments of their skills have been pretty spot on outside of Wilson.
Gotta be careful with guys that fall in love with physical tools and can't assess the mental side in any way.
You have no idea what Young’s mental faculties and processing is in the NFL. All you can do is project the numbers and traits and hope they’re smart enough to process quickly. Maye comes from a family of athletes, that have played pro. I’m going to trust that over your “opinion”. It’s funny that you would say that when Fields is more athlete than he is a processing, reading the field QB.
We don't have access to QBs to the degree that we would like, but pre draft we often do get to see QBs break down things on whiteboard and we can see in game whether someone goes through full field reads and progressions. Nothing about Wilson in college suggested that he had it mentally, which leads me to believe that you fell in love with the highlights and physical tools. Obviously if two players have the same mental processing, you'd take the one with more physical tools so I'm in agreeance there. I also have not offered an opinion on Maye so I'm not sure why you're so hurt about him. He's not coming out this year, so I don't know why I'd waste much time evaluating him.
The comment you responded to was in reference to me liking Wilson and Maye. There was literally nothing to suggest that Wilson was not capable mentally. Not one report or gameplay. The kid was being compared to Mahomes by draft pundits. BYU isn’t exactly an easy school to get into. The brain is there. The practical use of it is not. And who knows, maybe him, Lawrence and Fields have break throughs in their third seasons like Hurts and Tua. They’ve all shown flashes of why they were drafted so high to different degrees
Not sure what benching Mills accomplishes in the long run. It's not like the backup QB situation has a young unknown commodity in the wings. Maybe Kyle Allen pulls a Geno Smith miracle and 180s his career? Provides a spark and the team wins 1-2 more games? Is that worth potentially moving down in the draft order? At this point the Texans can do whatever at QB and I don't think it'd make a difference.
