I generally agree with your Texans forums posts but have to disagree here.

we’ve got a top 10 running back, A top 20 receiver and a generally solid pass blocking offensive line.

Yes we are thin at the skill positions- but not void of talent.

Mills has regressed is why, BTW I still would give Mills next yr and bring in a guy like Minshew to compete with him. I would give Minshew a reasonable 3 yr deal and draft one of the 3 guys Ilike better than any QB in this draft. Next years record doesn't really matter to me because I want another top 10 in 2024 to pair that pick t with the other 1st to get one of these QB's. I really want Ewers badly.

By this logic, Mills can progress. Hurts was not accurate last two seasons. He improved

You're all over the place with this, but whatever.

I wish we had a QB in our back pocket already from this draft to spark some healthy competition and have someone ready to take over if Mills faceplants and/or we move on next year.

I'm not all over the place at all.

I want one of Williams,Ewers,Maye in the 2024draft.

To be clear, I want vet competition brought in to compete with Mills next year and I want to sign him to a 3 year deal.

There are 3 QB's I like better than any QB in this draft and with two 1sts in the 2024 I'm pretty sure I can get one of them. Unless you think the Texans are going to win 9-10 games next year and if that's the case Mills will have played well enough to warrant continuing being the starting QB.

Who is playing like a top 20 WR this yr. Who's even an avg TE. Who's even an avg 3rd down RB? Slot? I would say Collins/Cooks have been avg at best this yr.

I would love to hear analysis on if receivers are open and mills is missing them vs no one is getting open.

I have only seen limited texans this year with jags being the first full game I watched and I think from that game I feel like the play calling is so safe. I don't know if that that is limiting Mills or if mills is limiting the play calling.
    Someone educate me please

Mills is wildly inconsistent with his throws. In a drive, he would go on a hot streak of 1 or 2 solid passes to give you some hope he could b the qb, and then he crumbles under pressure. Man overthrows, underthrows, very inconsistent.

The moment the pocket collapse, Mills acts like he's a deer standing in front of the headlight. Man can't make any throws towards the sidelines cause he's inaccurate as fk.

Playcall is trash, but i don't think anyone could make Mills look good, especially if he regressed from last season. Man's mental is gone. I could already tell he wasn't qb starter material last season, but looking at him now, man might not even b the best back up QB we ever had on our team.

    Mills is straight trash.

Is that aligned with having avg quarterback play?

Once again a qb with much greater physical traits than Davis Mills. Where’s the example of a qb with little to no mobility gettting much better
How do we know they’re playing at or below average when they are entirely reliant on Davis Mills to get them the ball? I’ve watched all 22 of some of the games and receivers are open. Davis either doesn’t throw to them or he throws so high that no one could catch it. Rex Burkhead is below average and our te currently are also below average.

Regardless of that, if you watch each play back in all 22, a few of the plays are badly designed by Pep, somewhere between 10-15%. Another 5-10%, the offensive line screws up or another personnel grouping is at fault. 70-75% of the issues are directly tied to Davis Mills poor play. He’s skittish in the pocket, goes through his reads too quickly, and sometimes locks on to his first read, is highly inaccurate especially to the sidelines, doesn’t move well in the pocket to avoid pressure, isn’t comfortable scrambling, and plays very conservatively even when there are plays to be made.

We should expect better from a qb that had an entire offseason and all the starter reps to work on his game. He’s got the bye week to start putting something together, but I think the pressure of needing to perform to keep his job after this year, just proved too much for him.

I thought they did away with the all 22 this yr. Can you tell me where I can get it.

I think your numbers are off a little bit but close to the truth. I would say 60-40.

Both things can be true, the skill position players can be lacking and Mills has regressed. I want to find the long term answer at QB and get an Allen, Mahomes, Herbert and that guy isn't in this draft. So go with Mills and a vet next year and draft your QB in 2024.

Depends on what you think of the skill position players.

What skill position players on the Texans keep DC's up at night?

Receivers are open often. He should have chemistry carrying over with Cooks if nothing else. Is Nico Collins a bust already? Hard to say when he doesnt get targeted as much as he should. OL is giving Mills plenty of time. Running game is GREAT. Mills sails every other pass. If he's such a good deep ball guy its a shame he's only thrown 2 all year.

We have to stop with the excuses for Davis Mills. I may be inclined to point the finger at Pep Hamilton for an antiquated passing game in general.

    30. Davis Mills
    Houston Texans · Year 2
    2022 stats: 5 games | 62.7 pct | 1,048 pass yds | 6.3 ypa | 5 pass TD | 4 INT | 2 rush yds | 0 rush TD | 4 fumbles

Mills vibes as a career backup who will earn stopgap duties until 2032 because he does just enough in a pinch. His performance against the Jaguars was a microcosm of his second NFL campaign. A grand total of 63 yards passing in the first half. Come the second, moments of chemistry with Nico Collins -- largely thanks to the wideout’s big-frame dominance -- and a key third-down conversion were rare highlights from an attack that centers around the beating heart of dangerous rumbler Dameon Pierce.
