Lawrence needed about 60-65 yards on that ball and only got about 50 despite having a running start on the throw. Pretty sad. Mills throws a good deep/intermediate ball and throws shockingly well on the run. Being tall I'm not surprised he has straight line speed but he's probably not very fleet or nimble. Weren't you the one who during the offseason was so adamant that we shouldn't draft another QB because Mills was our guy, etc etc? Interesting how quickly you seem to have abandoned that idea.
Mills is a back up QB in the NFL. That isn’t a bad outcome for him but it doesn’t fit the Texans needs.
Yes, after seeing him play I thought he deserved a chance to prove he was the guy. He's regressed. This still doesn't mean I want Caserio to draft a QB in this upcoming class. Sign a stop gap to compete with Mills and if Mills doesn't improve draft your franchise guy in 2024. I would draft Ewers even if Mills improved. I just don't want a team Lovie is coaching to mess up my newly drafted QB if I'm Caserio. Being in Mike Kalfka as the new HC, a QB guru
Mills has moved from Gutter Trash to Street Trash. Hope he moves from Street Trash to Can Trash the next game. Hopefully, he will continue his ascension from Can Trash to Recyclable to Useful Product to Brand New Toy.
With a good QB this team would definitely be playoff contenders. I look at a guy like Nico Collins. He is one who suffers so much from terrible QB play. He's shown serious flashes when Mills gets him a decent throw. He has all the tools, he just needs the QB.
Mills is at best a tolerable sufferance, which aligns itself perfectly with the history of the franchise.
That is a stark change of tune about both Mills and about when/whether to draft a QB at all. Being OK with waiting until 2024 to get a QB when you think Mills isn't the answer is certainly strange.
That's what happens when someone falls in love with one QB. No point in doing that because multiple draftable qbs will be good and there's no way to guarantee that you'll get the specific one you want.
Mills. Has. No. Weapons. If he were throwing to even league average wide receivers, we would notice a massive uptick in performance. Look at how Jalen Hurts has progressed this year after Philadelphia added AJ Brown and with Devonta Smith healthy and in his 2nd year... as an example of how this could work.
Jalen Hurts also worked on his throwing mechanics. He's an extremely hard worker that visibly improves himself every year. To relegate it just to having better receivers is unfair. As for Mills, it doesn't matter who your receivers are if you can't throw accurately or are unwilling to make the throws.
I am not relegating it to just having better receivers. It is simply one illustration. The criticism of Hurts last year was 1) throwing accurately and 2) poor decision-making. ... so things can obviously change in a year. And by the way, Mills was very accurate on deep balls last year and had excellent pocket presence... so perhaps he's just had a bad opening stretch. I think he's a serviceable QB. Not a superstar, but serviceable. Plenty good enough to win playoff games if he's got weapons.
I hope you’re right, but Mills also had a tendency to play much better at home and when the team was getting blown out. Basically when there was less pressure on him. This year almost every game has been really close and it feels like that added pressure to perform is affecting him. I could be wrong of course. Hurts did struggle with certain things for sure, but people are more willing to give him more time to develop because physically his upside is much higher than Mills.
He has had NFL-league-worst weapons in both seasons. Literally the worst playmaking weapons in the league.
Brandin Cooks and Nico Collins are better than whatever Chicago has so there's at least one team with worse weapons. I'd put Green Bay in there as well. Probably more as well, but it's really hard to evaluate how good Nico is when Davis Mills can't throw to the sideline or throws passes five feet above his receivers' heads. When a better qb is drafted and all of a sudden these same weapons look much better, I hope you're ready to come back and admit that maybe Davis Mills just isn't that good.
haven’t watched the Seahawks play this year - is Gino Smith really balling out? what a sign for patience if he is.
