To both of you: makes a lot of sense. Thanks for your thoughts; that's what I was looking for.

What he has done with the talent has been mediocre. This team is not a 5-6 ball club. We should be 8-3...

Chin would get the most and best out of everyone here. And the respect

If Bill Cowher comes on board, I wonder if he will bring in a 3-4 defense which they run in Pittsburgh. Here is what the defensive lineup could look like if he does change to a 3-4 defensive.

    LDE-Mario Williams
    NT-Open
    RDE-Antonio Smith

    ROLB-Connor Barwin
    RILB-DeMeco Ryans
    LILB-Brian Cushing
    LOLB-Open

    FS-Eugene Wilson
    SS-Bernard Pollard
    CB-Jacque Reeves
    CB-Glover Quin

You could trade Amobi Okoye or rotate move him around on the line as a backup. A lot of people have concerns about Mario in a 3-4 but he would he could play in any defense because of power and speed. A nose tackle like Terrance Cody would be nice. A outside pass rushing linebacker like Sean Weatherspoon, Sergio Kindle, or Jerry Hughes would also be nice. I think the Texans will pick somewhere between 10-15 so they won't be able to get some like Ndamukong Suh or Taylor Mays.

Another note on the 3-4 thing, Richard Seymour played 3-4 end for New England and did more than just occupy blockers. Suggs also put his hand on the ground for Baltimore and still made noise.

I agree. Mario would be a good fit in any defense. He has the size, speed, and power to play the end in a 3-4 like a Richard Seymour or Aaron Smith. Both Seymour and Smith have had seasons in which they have had 8 sacks playing end in a 3-4 defensive. I also think it is easier to draft players in a 3-4 defensive because it seems the number of small college defensive ends like a Jerry Hughes or Sergio Kindle who have to play in a 3-4 is increasing.

Completely disagree. When the Colts finally did win the SB, Manning played poorly for the majority of the postseason. He played wel in the Conf Game (2nd half), but the defense won that title. Having Manning helps a lot, but the only time they won something it wasn't on his shoulders....

Here is a recap of the Colts SB run:

    Wild Card Round
Beat Chiefs 23-8. Manning had 3 intros. The defense forced three turnovers, four sacks, and prevented Kansas City from gaining a single first down until late in the third quarter. Recap:

    Divisional Round
    Beat Ravens 15-6.

    Conference Championship
Manning played great this game (2nd half that is).

    Super Bowl
Manning was named the MVP, but he only had 1 TD and 247 yards. The defense only allowed 10 points (Hester had a kickoff return for a TD) and had multiple turnovers. It even notes this in the NFL Recap:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006–07_NFL_playoffs
    http://www.nfl.com/superbowl/history/recap/sbxli

Manning is great. But you can probably credit the Dungy defense more for that SB run than you can Manning. At the very least, you can't say he is a coach that won because of the offense that he had nothing to do with.

This is true, but you realize that was a fluke run by that defense right? His defense never played that well before that stretch. He was in Indy for what, 6 or 7 years, and only for a stretch of 4 games or so was his defense able to play stout?

Like I said, I like Tony Dungy and think he's probably a good coach, but had he not ended up with Peyton Manning, perception of him would be entirely different.

So what your saying is we should go get Peyton instead of Dungy, I'm on board with that. But seriously, I agree with you having Peyton almost makes evaluating the coach an impossibility, whoever it is, is going to look genius most of the time.

You realize Manning has typically regressed in the playoffs almost every year, right? I agree he is lucky to have Manning. But Manning has never had a streak of playoff brilliance to lead the Colts anywhere. So it makes no sense to say he only reached the pinnacle because of his QB or offense. They won the title with his HOF QB played like garbage for the majority of that run.
