If V-Span's signing rights are all it takes for them to exchange Swift for a re-signed Mike James, then I'm all for it. That'd be quite a coup, but I think it's a bit of a pipedream.
look above at my correction JVG was never a fan of European players when he was with the Knicks. He still would rather pick a veteran over an unproven foreign player.
Yeah, I think you use the MLE on Mike James and then let VSpan percolate over in Europe for another year. Next year we can bring him over using part of the MLE and then sign another rotational player with it.
***** V-Spanoulis and ***** Malik Badiane. Them mother*****ers were wasted draft picks that will never be about anything in the nba.
Ok seriously (not sure my post last night was... anything) my concern is that V-Span kicks it up a notch and then wants serious money. For all the criticism CD and Lindsey get here, they are high on this kid and want to see him play here. They could be wrong, but I'd like to see us cut a deal where we pay him $750,00 or so, before someone like the, oh I don't know, the top ten teams in the league toss him the LLE and us a 2nd round pick. It all boils down to this for me: we're going to lose this guy because our team is terrible, JVG doesn't like pgs who do too much of anything and we are left no closer to anything a year from now. We have to take chances and V-Span is at least a well-known commodity to our brass.
What makes you think he'll come over for $750K US. According to Doc Rocket, he's making 600K in Euros tax-free. And in order to bring him over, we'd probably have to fork over 2 mill or up. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=1947876&highlight=Spanoulis+taxes#post1947876 Besides, we have his rights. You make it sound like another team can sign him outright and just give us compensation. It doesn't work that way.
Man, I must have pissed you off somehow. And I'm sorry I didn't write more clearly. But thanks for the thread, which I've read, and there's probably five others here that contradict it. I do not know how much money it would take to get V-Span here now, or what he would accept. Someone else here whom I respect said at one point the new CBA said we could still get him here for $600k (if he agreed) and I just gave up trying to understand. Regarding the question of "rights" man, that was so out of line. I wouldn't have suggested anyone here, even a suspected 10 year old newbie, would have thought we could involuntarily relinquish V-Span's rights. My point was, and is we probably will, as things look now, use V-Span's rights as a wasted chip and that could be a big mistake. And if you look at our roster, it would be hard to figure out how we could risk it, IMHO. It doesn't work that way, huh? How completely rude.
Well, how about this? I hope I write clearly enough here and now. Man, I agree with you 90% of the time and don't care when I don't. But if you ever pick on anyone here, for whatever reason - even if they're completely wrong - look for me to be quite succinct. Still rude, and uncharacteristically senseless. Hope you had a good night, and see you tomorrow.
Look I'll save you the trouble. I'm going to be rude to someone on this board. Sooner or later it'll happen. We all get pissy sometimes. And I can get as inconsiderate as anybody (see any recent discussion I've had with jopatmc regarding Darius Miles). So you don't need to track my posts in order to prove a point. If I offended you then I apologize. If you can accept that then great. If not then fine. That's all I have to say about that.
