I am wondering how this is going to play out. I was just reading an article that said that the military leadership wants the protesters off the streets ASAP. If the protesters don't move things could still turn ugly.
Al Jazeera clowning Obama's indecision http://english.aljazeera.net/news/middleeast/2011/02/20112108715425794.html#
Wow I'm glad to be off target this much. Didn't realize he'd step down this soon. Yes, I'm excited and frightened about what this bodes for the rest of the region. The internet (Wikileaks) is powerful indeed.
why is my credibility in question? Is Al Jazeera not clowning Obama? Looks like you're just trying to score some silly points on me. Try harder. TIA brah
Naaah. If I just wanted to score points I would have reminded everyone of the time you told us that you look at Al Jazeera "quite frequently" and then posted this as your proof of their anti-American bias- Of course, that turned out to be a fake Al Jazeera site. Good times.
gifford -- why the hate in your heart, my friend? Instead of discussing the topic at hand, you choose to throw stones at me. I'll be the bigger man and not respond in kind.
Because Texx, on this site you personify all the rhetorically hyperbolic , politically expedient, self serving, false religious, baselessly conceited, toadies of big business that frustrate the real thoughtful people of good will.
a sidenote to the unrest in egypt. i have been paying attention to the media trying to claim this will cause oil prices to shoot through the roof. for example, cnbc claims that oil prices went down because mubarak resigned. oil prices have been dropping for about two weeks, as long as the situation has been going on. its poor reporting at best. on wed of last week, msnbc tried to tie in the price of oil to the situation, oil dropped that by ($1.78) a barrel I believe, but they still had to run their analysis. so they mentioned the price drop and noted it on the screen in the color green. now anybody who watches these shows knows that when a price drops they put the drop in red and an increase in green. but the reality didn't fit their narrative so they put the drop in green anyway. just a side note to the reporting it makes me question the overall reporting.
Actually, I'd be very surprised if oil prices weren't moving with the situation in Egypt. A very, very large proportion of the world's oil has to be transported through the Suez canal, and if that were to be disrupted by civil unrest, there would be an immediate supply squeeze.
no one is going to let anything happen to the suez canal. that is the reasoning for the disruption predictions, but that's not going to happen. too many have too much at stake.
lol -- you haven't impressed me. Sorry. I never contradicted myself with my point that Al Jazeera was clowning Obama. They were.
Agreed, and that's why oil prices only moved up marginally instead of spiking 10%. The situation was certainly tense enough to cause investors to worry a little bit. Put it this way: if the army had not lubricated the situation significantly earlier by pledging not to fire on the people, oil futures would have been a LOT more volatile than they have been.
