And then Atlanta Hawks in the Finals? Hahaha. That would be the most hilarious title run ever if it happened.
I think we'd all prefer the Hornets or Nuggets. Problem is the only way we match up with either team the way things are going is if we finish in the Top 3 in the West. And if the Rockets pull that off, then go ahead and give Rick Adelman the Coach of the Century award.
With some luck, Rafer continuing to play at this level and Scola and Landry coming into their own we could make a run in the playoffs. I think we can get by Utah, Phoenix, Dallas and GS (if they make it) and Denver (again, if they make it) in a best of 7 series. Honestly, the only teams I fear now that Yao is out are SA and LA because of their post players. I know Boozer is a great PF but his skills are the jumper and face up moves to the basket. Chuck Hayes handles Boozer quite well and Scola could own Okur IMO. We might even be better against them without Yao. If the basketball gods are smiling on us we might be able to avoid SA and LA and go all the way to the NBA Finals. Is it a huge stretch? Of course but stranger things have happened (I think).
I think the Rockets match up better against Utah without Yao. He can't guard Boozer or Okur, and shot a low percentage and had a lot of turnovers against Okur on the offensive end.
Okay that's what I was thinking, but I thought the scenario was different. But I guess we did win more games than Utah.
Well the scenario is being prepared NOH just beat PHX and that put the Rockets 1 game below dallas and 1.5 below PHX we can do it!! I believe!!
SETH You have hit the nail on the head, because I think that's just where the Rockets are headed. They could be there in less than a week and then they must fight to hold their position. It could all work out to their advantage, with possibly reaching the conference final! This would be great experience for all of the younger players.
Jazz is ripping Pistons apart tonight... Reminds me all those bitter memories back in last summer... The execution down the stretch, the dirty physical defense, the Boozer-Williams duo, the Okur 3 pointers, and Milsap... I don't wanna meet them in the playoffs, at least not in the first round. Lets grab the 6/7 seed and try to beat Spurs, Suns or Hornets in the first round.
I am on board with this. I too, want the Jazz again. If the Rockets got the Jazz in the first round and eat them, I would consider this season saved. I am still just crushed over the news from yesterday. I was at the game last nite and all I could think of was how different the atmosphere would have been had the Yao thing not happened.
