You're right. He drafted some stinkers and signed some bad contracts, but he also could get important trades done. He could close the deal.
Well I'm sitting here trying to be positive.. I wanna say Okay! Well let's see how free agency plays out before I get pissed about last night.. But I also said that going into last night about the draft.. The last 3 years is constant underwhelming.. I like Lamb and white.. Not much for jones which makes me think we are gonna make a trade, not necessarily for Dwight but some sort of trade where more has a stockpile of forwards to couple with Lowry and Kmart.. Anyways, all they hype of moving up to 2, 5, and 8 got everyone hopeful for at least 1 of those and nothing happened as usual.. I don't know why I was surprised..
Let's be clear on this one. If you wanted to add an assload of pieces in this draft that would be truly meaningful, you'd find a way to lose games. Given the whole, "we'll never tank...we have to try to be a playoff team every year, torpedoes be damned" approach from Les, the very very very last thing I thought the Rockets would do last night is add 3 mid-first round players. Didn't see that coming. And judging from all their activity, it's not what they wanted either. But it's what we're stuck with for the time being. We'll see where it goes from here. But though I wanted them to find a way higher into this draft, even if it meant losing more games in a lockout shortened season, my complaint is that there doesn't seem to be much of a plan. We're not tanking...but we just added 3 rookies and we now have 7 power forwards, none of whom are very tall. We're hoping another team bails us out of our #assets and assuming they'll give us great value in return for that, knowing our position now. We no longer have the flexible draft picks to trade (which allow the trading partner to pick whomever they want). Packaging up Lowry plus a couple of first rounders in last night's draft might have given you a nice return. Those picks are gone...now you have to hope the trading partner likes the guys you picked and feels they "fit" on his team. Unfortunately, it seems like the Rockets don't do a whole lot of thinking on "fit." Make no mistake about it...even the Rockets were disappointed in last night's draft. McHale's on this morning talking about how hard they worked and how he expected they'd move at least one if not all three of those draft picks. We don't live in a bubble...we've been hearing that kind of stuff for quite a while now. Hoping to see some light soon...feels like we've been waiting a while though. And I'm so tired of hearing the "Morey's trying to do _________" mantra followed by coming up short every time.
I just have one question? Does anyone have a run down on what our roster is after the draft? Who do we have on the books? I know D-Mo is coming over to sign this year.. I just can't seem to find a list of players we have... signed or unsigned. thanks
How can the fans NOT be fickle when management is so fickle about their players? I am moderately excited about the guys we drafted last night, but that excitement is tempered by the realization that the Rockets are probably already looking for a way to unload them. I have a question... When is it okay for fans to say, "Something needs to change"? I think there's a difference between fans being disgruntled with the same results for the last 3 years and being fickle/fairweather.
That was left in my rep. Wanted to respond to it. I'm not asking fans to NOT be fans. I'm saying don't freak out and go into the depths of despair the day after the draft.
I really like the panic when you can't see the car anymore analogy. It's like your getting your portrait painted and you walk around to see what it looks like half way done and tell the painter "it sucks and you suck".
